I have a 2012 36hp prodrive on a 18x54 prodrive boat. With me 260lbs and my daughter 110lbs and an 50qt icechest it runs 21 to 23mph at 4k rpms trimmed up. That's all its got. I was reading where guys are getting upper 20s to lower 30s at higher rpms. How are yall achieving this?

That seems a little slow to me at those rpms. How is the condition of the bottom of the boat at the transom? Any good sized dents?

I have a 2012 36 PD on a 16x48 gator trax. I get about 26-27 mph with similar load. I think the 18x54 is why you are getting lower 20s. It is what it is. Plenty fast for me.

Actually, that boat should probably be faster than that Gator Trax...

I would check the bottom of bottom and at transom to see if there are any hooks (dents)...

Also, would really look at weight distribution. Moving some stuff around can really affect performance on one of these. Even side to side is a big deal-you want the boat running flat so if you, your daughter, and ice chest are not centered then you create a drag. You have to offset boxes, and the driver with weight....

Lastly, you might have trimmed up too high. Sometimes there is more speed in a little less RPMS..

I want to say stock on that boat probably around 3850-3900 would be better but it has been a while since I ran a stock one.

You just have to play around with different things to see if you can pick a little speed up. There is a sweet spot and you are looking for that.

I had that exact boat it ran 27/28 stock empty and 23 with a 3 man hunting load I think with the load you are speaking of you should be 24/25 at 4100 rpms possible your valves are leaking or you have a less efficient prop

I bought the boat with only 36hrs on it. It's practically brand new, no debts or even scratches. Another question. Do yall have to trim up to go into reverse? I was thinking the motor was sitting to high on the transom because it will hit the bottom of the boat if I'm not trimmed up. The motor runs great, no smoke or use of oil.

I have a 17x54 that will run about 26 with two people stock. That's all its got though at 38-3900 Rpms.

My 1854 barge ran 25-26 with stock engine. It took forever to get on a step and sometimes needed to find shallow water to get it on a step when I had any load whatsoever. Once it was up on step, it would still run 25, even with a load. Those speeds were running about 3960'ish RPM's.

Regarding the reverse, yes, it's better to trim the motor up before reverse. My cav plate used to scratch the transom 1.5" above the bottom. When the motor was turned hard in either direction and I wasn't trimmed up high enough; yes, prop has hit the bottom. My cav plate no longer hits the transom.

I'd do what's mentioned above. Adjust, your weight distribution, adjust your trim to where you are getting the most forward thrust. Then, check valve lash. If that's good, have a leak down test performed. You should easily roll 25 with that set-up. Prolly closer to 26.

Oh yeah....how do people get upper 20's and low 30's? Decked heads, stainless one piece valves, high rev springs, cams, performance carb's, performance exhausts, beer can boats, empty boats, tail winds, tail currents.....just to name a few ways.

The most common way to get 30+ mph out of your rig is to just post it on the internet....that way everybody knows it's true.

In other words, just lie about it.
