Post 2 blade or 3??
I'm completely new to these rigs and have read until my eyes are tired of looking. I'm running a boss h3500 with carb and exhaust on a 1748 uncle j. It came with a big blade and my buddy is running a 3 blade on his gdsd. What's the advantage to the 3 blade vs the bb 2 blade? Would I gain anything changing to the 3 blade? With my boat loaded with 2 batteries trolling motor 9 gallons of gas 1 man full welded floor 3/16 bottom and 1/8 sides hunt deck I can run out at 29-30 at 4300 Rpms.

Get one and try it. That's all you can do.

Wait a sec.....I have to ask since no one else has: what motor are you running? Because there is no way a 35 stock is doing 29-30 on a boss frame pushing a 1748. At 4300 rpms a big blade doesn't have enough pitch to run 30, and the boss isn't geared to run that speed with a stock big blade. In the event you are actually getting that speed, leave that prop alone, it's frickin perfect :O

Now, to reply to your question. A 2 blade vs a 3 blade. Personal preference. There are quite a few discussions where one proves better than the other in different curcumstances, so it'll depend on what kind of conditions you run in. Use the search feature, or Google "2 blade vs 3 blade, mud motor talk". You'll get plenty of results to read through with answers to your question.

Then I retract my doubt related to engine speed.
It's still 4300 rpms with a big blade on a lower unit with a low gear ratio. Even with mild prop slip, is that realistic? Guess someone with knowledge of the gear ratio for the H motors can educate me.

Here's my 2cents for ford guy. There is a sl of info on 2 vs 3 blade but none give a definite clear answer. My boat is 19'4" long and 52" wide with its own heli-pad on it... Its heavy as hell.it has 2015 gtr35 on it that came with a 3blade and it sucked for my setup. It ran 24mph in open water, didn't reverse well, and it would lose a lot of speed when adding weight. I ran a new 2blade gt prop on it today and it ran only a half a mph faster but the rpms were higher, it backed up WAY better, it ran through the thick shit better because it didn't bog any, it went through mud and grass better, the holeshot was better, and when 2 more guys got in with me it didn't slow down much at all. The ONLY thing i like better about the 3blade is less vibration.

From the people I talked to at Boss, they did some testing with the three blade, your going to lose some top end speed (too much), but very smooth and a little gain on bottom end (to little).

I think what people fail to realize all too often is the fact that you need to set these props up for three things....YOUR rig, YOUR running conditions and what YOU want it to do.

There are no magic one size fit all props...2 or 3 blades. I own 4 props...two 3 blades and two 2 blades....and they all have their own purpose.

There's no one prop that will give you the best top end speed with the best load carrying ability and the best rooting in the mud. Just not out there. You will lose one thing to gain another or you will simply have to settle on a happy medium between them.

Or own four props. LOL

I don't like the tiller torque of any 3 blade I've tried on my gtr. It drives almost as good as an outboard with a 2 blade

I appreciate all your responses. As I thought, with these rigs there is really no real winner. Each situation each boat will like something different. I like mine the way it is, I'm happy with it, so I think the best thing I can do is just run it. Thanks again guys!
