 Broken grease bolt on GTR37
I managed to over torque my drain plug after pumping fresh grease in my upper zerk. I noticed that the plug had a hollow shaft as pictured. Is there a reason that this is designed this way or could I get away with just replacing it with a same sized bolt? 20150920_212137.jpg

Re: Broken grease bolt on GTR37
Is that the new lower unit? My guess is that it is a pipe thread and not a regular bolt. It looks like a brass pipe plug. I would replace with the same in case it ever gets broke off it will be easier to remove.

It's going to have different threads than a bolt. Go to a hardware store or big box home improvement store and match it up.

Yeah, it's on the new lower unit. I found a matching size/threaded stainless bolt at lowes that will work. I just wasn't sure about it having a hollow shaft. I'm gonna call gator tail in the am and ask them. It just drives me crazy when stuff like this happens over the weekend.

Re: Broken grease bolt on GTR37
Even if the threads "match" the plug you broke is tapered. A bolt will never tighten up in that hole till it bottoms out. A pipe plug is tapered so it gets tighter the farther you thread it in.
-get a correctly sized pipe plug for it and don't ovrrtighten it. It doesn't have to be retarded gorilla tight.

10-4, put any Teflon on it? Don't know if GT recommends it but I can't see it being a bad thing...
