35 GDSD gearing up vs adding pitch to prop
Alright gents this is my delima. My rig is a 1744 with a 35 gdsd. Motor is stock parts but heads worked etc. Top pulley geared up to 36t. Stock 3 blade still looks new. At 3850 its at 30/31 and 3950 is the same. I read somewhere that the prop will only spin so fast then is out of its sweet spot. Im thinking of this like a drill bit spinning just right leaving leaving clean shavings vs drill wot leaves chips. Do yall think going back to 34t top and adding pitch to prop could make it bite more water and add mph? It seems to hit a wall at 30 thats hard to get past, Im sure one of yall has done the prop/ gear swap boogi before. Any experience appreciated

I would go back to stock gearing and play with the prop. Id start with having it balanced and adding an inch or so of pitch, leave the factory cupping alone. That's where Id start in this case.

10 4 on that. That will be nxt thing i try. As far as pulleys, stock is 34 tooth top sprocket, i only went up to 36 because i have a lightweight boat from Willets and a strong motor. As setx said going taller on prop might be better than gearing.

Re: 35 GDSD gearing up vs adding pitch to prop
Boat is all 1/8 with runners only 1x2. Pete told me he usally uses bigger stuff. I like it being light, easy to move around. If i bend it i can fix it. So far ive slid it over a tree 2 ft out of water with me and a 250lb buddy. Bottom is still perfect. I prob dont hit as many random stups as some of yall but boat has held up great. Thanks again WC boats.

Re: 35 GDSD gearing up vs adding pitch to prop
I am running GD 3 blade on a MB surface drive had center broached to fit hex shaft and cup touched up but pitch is stock. hole shot and shallow water take off better than big blade but I run 38 top 50 bottom it doesn't matter where I trim it from 4200 to 4700 rpm it doesn't run over 30- 31 mph so my guess would be add pitch for speed.

Re: 35 GDSD gearing up vs adding pitch to prop
Flint im still running the same combo just still playing with motor. My cup on my prop is a bit more worn down. I can hit it from a stop and it goes straight to 3800 like its spinning the tires. It used to grab harder. Im currently runnin 4100 at 32 light. 28 with 600 lbs. 25 with 800. Its a skinny boat and starts running too deep with a big load. Still with the 36 top gear. Although i havent done it yet i still want to add pitch and go back to a 34 top gear. Ive been watching your build. Im also wondering why your rpm is low with a mikuni. Im playing with a stock one just to see what i can get from stock parts
