I HAVE CONFIRMED THAT THE MERC TRIM UPGRADE WILL WORK ON THIS MODEL MOTOR, WHAT IM ASKING IS HOW HARD WILL IT BE TO CHANGE OUT AND ADD THE UPGRADE IM MECHANICALLY INCLINED WHEN IT COMES TO CARS BUT THIS IS A SHOT IN THE DARK. HOW HARD WILL IT BE AND WHAT DO I NEED TO DO AS FAR AS MAKING SURE IT WILL TRIM RIGHT AND WONT BE TO TIGHT OR TO LOSE AND THAT THIS THING WILL FUNCTION PROPERLY.ALSO THE HANDLE IT HAS HAS THE TRIM BUTTON ALREADY ON IT WILL I NEED TO BUY A NEW SWITCH AND WIRING HARNESS OR IS ALL THAT ALREADY HIDEN INSIDE THERE AND ALL I NEED TO DO IS RUN THE POWER TO THE UNIT. I swapped my old motor from a Thompson to a Mercury in about 2 hours. That's wiring relays in and everything. Motor hoist will be your friend for sure.

It is not that hard of a job. You will need a hoist to take the motor off the back of the boat, and it would be a good idea to download the wiring diagram for a sport merc off of the MB site so that you will know how to hook up the electrical. But here is my best short version of what you'll need to do:

I havent done one of these jobs in quite a while, but there is one modification that may need to be done. The motos sits on top of what is called the base plate. There are 2 vertical pieces of metal welded to the bottom of the base plate that may hit the new merc trim transom assembly. You can either put a couple of ss flat washers on the swivel bolt to shim the base plate up unit it doesnt hit, or you can grind a little off of those metal brackes till it clears..........bad news is that you wont know if it is going to hit until you actually put the merc trim assembly on and steer it from side to side to check the clearance.

As far as it being "to tight or to lose" I dont know exactly what you mean by that, but if you over tighten the nut at the bottom of the steering tube you wont be able to steer the motor from side to side. If so, just loosen it up till it steer freely.

How did yall mount the relays or could someone take some photos of how yall did yours. Also the hydraulic portion of the unit, not the motor unit, has a lynch pin through some type of cylinder, does this pin get removed prior to mounting the motor back on the bracket? I realize this is fairly vague but hopefully yall realize what im talking about.

Thanks
