I was running in open water and the shaft and prop fell out. Didn't hit anything and it didn't make a sound but the shaft was split about 2 inches into the foot.

That's just it though. I brought it to a shop nearby that does warranty work and when I went to pick it up, he said Hoyt said he was only paying parts and not labor. So I called Hoyt and I think it was a misunderstanding about whether or not I was still under warranty. Hoyt told me he would call to see if my engine looked beat up like I would've hit something to cause it. Then later the guy at the service shop called and said Hoyt said he will take care of it, but I still owed him a lower price for the bearings. I was thinking the whole job should've been warrantied beings my engine was perfectly fine until that happened. It almost seems like Hoyt thinks they took care of everything, but the service guy is still trying to charge me for the bearings. I got my boat back without paying, I just don't want anyone to get screwed but at the same time I don't want to get screwed either. I always heard Gatortail has great customer service when it comes to warranty even sometimes when warranties are up, but this is the most trouble I've ever had when it comes to warranty.

I brought it to southern mud motors in Lockport, LA. That's what it seems like to me, I will give them a call today.

I had a blade on my 2015 GTR 35 break off with just 15 hours on it. It tore the welds to the lower unit all up. I drove 6 hours to Gator Tail a day later and got there at 10am. By 2pm I was back on the road home. The guys at Gator Tail were top notch. The only money I was out of was the extra crap I bought while there. I was also running open water when my prop broke. I was told they had a bad casting of props and mine wasn't the first to have had this problem. If possible skip your dealer and go straight to GTR.

I can't believe this isn't getting more play. Why have dealers set up. that charge labor on a warranty claims. And a company that is saying they have a problem. And have their dealers charging for a known problem. But if you take it to them they cover all costs. Some kinda bullshit going on here. I don't think we are getting all the facts here.

Cupped up if I'am reading right quack and stacked said that Hoyt was not paying labor to his dealers. If that's the truth not a good way to deal with a problem .

Im back to the old lower. Just saying because im not spending money on a new lower that will eventually fail. My first one was covered. I didn't even ask for the second one bc i had a worked prop that came apart and i sorta felt like the worked prop contributed to it.

Something sounds a little shady. I don't start on any warranty repair until I get confirmation that it will be covered, and Pro-Drive always pays my labor.

But, I am a service center, and not a dealership. There may be an agreement between GT and the dealer, because of the pricing they receive, that they will be responsible for labor on warranty issues, and they are passing that cost along to the consumer.

Msm8281 at what kind of cost and what was involved in the swap. I too dislike the new out drive. I think them as in gator tail might want to look at covering all costs if it is a manufacturing defect in the out drive. Prop also. As far as the greed part as companies grow they bring more people into play. And to justify there pay some times adjustments in the company are made. Some see it as a loss of what got them where they started from. But not covering your product 100 % is just crazy to me.

Probably the new 2 blade since they don't make the old one anymore I don't think....that's what I was running when mine broke in the exact same way...

Heres my best guess at what happened..First few times I ran that prop there was no noise no vibration or anything and then out of no where one day I noticed a slight clank in the motor at idle and when I got back to the ramp is when I figured out the prop was sliding. Called Gt and they said they were aware of the issue with that prop and mailed me a "spacer" to keep it tight. Ran it two times after that over a few week period, first time was great, no clank no prop slide or anything. Second time out it ran great again...for about 2 hours then went from wide open to no prop and broke shaft.. So is what I'm guessing happened is that from that one trip out were the prop slid back and forth was enough to crack the shaft then in those next two trips it finally gave out.

After it broke and I was able to get back to the ramp and was able to get a good look at it here's how I can describe it. I'll look for a pic somewhere. The shaft was broke about an inch or so into the housing and it was a clean break, almost looked like a cut. The outer edges were darker in color where it looked like it had been cracked prior to it breaking all the way and started to rust a little and the center was still clean metal where it had just broke. Going off of that and the clank in made that one trip is where I came up with my theory on how it broke..

Warranty all depends on the circumstances. When I do warranty on GT I know for a fact what the terms are and let my customer know what's up before I turn a wrench.

I'd be willing to bet there is more to the story. I do warranty work for Gator at times and I have never passed any cost to the customer and I was compensated aswell.
