I replaced my gaskets on the Rocker cover's today, and I am not sure how tight the bolts should be. I found out the hard way that they are torque bolts ![]() |

Just snug them down with a 1/4'' ratchet and be done with it. |

I am officially a jackass. No comments please. LOL. Well, when I broke the bolt off in the valve cover, apparently I stripped the internal grooves. When I put in the new bolt it begins to tighten and then gets loose, if I turn it again it begins to tighten again? the bolt is flush, and I can not turn it with my hand. I do not have a torque wrench, so i am not sure if it is tight enough to hold. ANY THOUGHTS? How do you repair a stripped groove, as this seems to be attached to the case, not a separate housing.... am I SCREWED? No pun intended. |

May have to insert a heli coil. Local auto parts store should be able to help you with this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCtXiwlQsiU |

Newton Sheldon has a assortment of Heli coils. These blocks are soft and will strip. |

Thx Steve. It looks like I will be making this drive again real soon! I am just hoping it will hold for my scouting trip on Sunday and then my hunt on Wed.! I can't believe I stripped it, but...it is what it is! What a bone head move! |

The valve cover bolts thread into the head, some go all the way through (bottom two). If the one you broke off goes all the way through take a longer bolt and place a nut and lockwasher on the backside to snug it up. |
