Post cavitation plate on long tail muc motor
Recently purchased a Turbo Tornado mud motor drive train and have some questions about adjusting the cav plate. First of all can someone tell me how a cav plate works? I know it's to keep the engine from cavitating but how does it do that. Secondly the plate on this unis is adjustable. Do you set it to be sort of parallel to the water surface of do you just do a trial and error on it to get is set correctly? Thanks guys.

Ok , I'll try to help you , a cav plate on a longtail has the purpose of creating anopposing force on the lower shaft to keep the prop in the water . To keep the prop from blowing out. It does have a balance point that needs to be achieved. Ideally your plate should be positioned so that the prop it self rides just below the top of the water surface. (At full travel speed) You have pics of this frame kit. Let's start with that . Before you get to deep in this . Is it a bolt up , weld on.

It a bolt up, has an adjustable slot to tilt the back up or down and it's concave in shape.

Ok , seen that type of cav plate before. here's what you do , set it neutral . Same distance adjustment both ways. Bring your tools , normal load in your boat where it's stowed . Go find water with a bank or shore close by. Run it . Look back. , where's the plate how deep is it running ?,is the handle fighting you , are you pulling up or pushing down to keep the prop right. Ideally on those teardrop cav plate designs. The middle hump will ride just out or at the top of the water with the far trailing edge just in the water at optimium speed. Nose down will create more force overall on the plate buy water surface and bring prop down , nose up will free up resistance and Bring prop closer to surface. Just going to have to make a few runs and dial it in. Interesting , give us a review , I haven't seen this brand yet. Oh locktite everything you assemble on that frame .

Gotta move cavitation plate every time you grease it

Because you've seen one and know, or because in the picture it looks like it?

Thanks. I will write a review later on. The thing is built very stout. Looks quite rugged but will see.

no you don't have to remove cav plate to grease it... kind of looks like it in the pic but not inreal life.
