Post Removing powerhead 36 PD
So I pulled the powerhead off my 09 36 PD to change out the clutch, but something just doesn't seem right. When you remove the powerhead does the whole clutch assembly come off with the spline adapter (i.e. Powerhead, clutch, spline adapter all still connected) or does the lower part of the clutch and spline adapter stay with the lower unit?

Thanks much!

That's what I thought... The top 2 clutch pieces came off attached to the crankshaft and the lower piece is still with the lower unit. I seem to recall a bolt holding it all together, correct? I'll have to look later, but I'm guessing that bolt either fell out or sheered off.

Yup. Busted - I think. I pulled off the lower clutch piece which is attached to the spline adapter. It came off very easily and I noticed the thick, kinda oval washer floating around free, but no bolt. Looking at the crankshaft, it looks like the bolt is broken off in there, but the weird part is no bolt head anywhere... I thought it would come out when I pulled the spline adapter off, but nothing, and I can't see anything down in the lower unit. It's like it disappeared, but it seems it should have been trapped between the spline coming up from the lower unit and the adapter/clutch.

The bolt that "I think" you are referring to is the bolt that holds the clutch on the end of the crankshaft. The only other bolt on the whole assembly that you pulled out is the 4 allen hean head bolts that hold the spline adapter to the clutch. Other than that, there is nothing else.

Not sure how, but it's busted off pretty far up into the crankshaft. Anyone have this happen to them?
