My drain plug on my short transom 27hp gen1 lower unit broke in the water and my bearings locked up. if I have to replace the whole lower unit can any lower unit fit (Gen2, Gen3, Gen4)? |

Yes, and make sure to get the Gen 4. Don't go with Gen 3 Are you sure the Bearings are indeed locked up? I know a few people on here who would get that from you just to bust it open. |

took it apart yesterday and it's something under my clutch and above my top gear. outdrive shaft is perfectly fine except minor tooth chips. Would I have to get a different adaptor If I go with the gen4? |

if your spline adaptor is bad just change it and move on. easy fix. |
