Post Need Prop and Gear suggestions
Running a stage 2 Mudbuddy on 18x44 Gator Trax hull.
Still running stock gears 38Top/50Bottom.

With stock Big Blade at WOT
30.3 mph @4650 rpms.
Great performance all the way around.

With a Worked Mercury 3 blade with 11.5 pitch
32.5 mph @4450 rpms. Hole shot sucks but I can cruise at 30mph just passed half throttle and haul 500lbs load 29mph at WOT.

Since the Big Blade performs so much better, would dropping 2 teeth on the bottom gear give me the speed of the 3 blade and still keep a decent bottom end? I already tried a a worked Big Blade with 11.5 pitch and I could only swing it 3800 rpms and it ran 27.7mph. It sucked.

I really don't mud ride but occasionally I get into some shallow stuff and lillies.

I really would love to hold 30mph just past half throttle so I can ride at decent speed without suck all my fuel out quickly.

I'm running a Hammer prop with 38/47 gears on a moded MB BD 45 at 4500 rpm. Motors on a 1648 Rivited Alumacraft Jon. I would think a 47 tooth bottom gear would work for you.

I know the hammer is a large prop. The worked Big Blade I tried with 11.5 pitch gave me problems and I running lower gears with that 50 on the bottom. Maybe it was marked 11.5P but was actually more. It puzzles me as to why I lost 860 rpms with just a 1.5 change in pitch. My boat is a lot heavier than yours also. That makes a huge difference in how many RPMs you can turn.

Wonder if the reworked prop, was miss marked on amount of pitch, and if cup and rake and diameter were changed a little. Rake and blade shape can be a factor also.

There is a point in which too much pitch or cup stops following the typical Rpm hit rules because it becomes too much for the engine. Also, too much cup with that extra 1.5" of pitch could've been the problem.

38/48. With prop work to get it tuned in to your specific needs. My 11 pitch big blade is my favorite prop. And I have tried many at this point. Runs best 4600-4650

Well I'm feeling better that you guys think that prop could possibly be mismarked or have to much cup. I 'm currently right at 10 rpms from bumping the limiter. It stops me at 4670 rpms. From y'alls experience do you think either a pitch change to 11 or a 2 tooth smaller gear would have the exact same effect or would one be better than the other.? I think if I do both then I'll drop my rpms to much.

I couldn't run my rig at WOT with the BB or the 3 blade, both would be on the rev limiter with a two person load. Went to the Hammer prop and now I can run WOT at 4500 RPM, should I need to. I'm satisfied with a cruise speed of 3800-4000 rpm and 28-29 mph. Hoping to save the motor. With a five person load I can plane boat easily, and run 23 mph at 4000 rpm.

Yeah I think that's a good idea. I'll get a 48 tooth

I'm pretty sure all the new GTRs run a 38/48. On my boat a stock big blade ran 30 bumping 31 at times and all over the coils. The worked 11 pitch big blade runs 32 holding 33 for long periods and has touched 34 in the right kind of water(good ripple) running 4600-4650. A worked 3 blade runs 34 solid at 4450-4500 and probably has more in it but I havent runt much at all. My gps doesn't have a decimal place on the speed. 1854 prodigy 3/16 bottom with catwalks.

Just to update on this post:
The 48 tooth lower gear lowered my rpms in the 4450 rpms I lost a little top end speed and bottom end power. It pretty much put me back where I was power wise before I added a cam. Put the 50 tooth lower back in and it just works better. I think my rev limiter broke because it now runs 30.5 mph solo at 3750 and with 2 people 29mph at 3650. This is with the stock Big Blade in Deep water.
Mudbuddy refunded my money for the 48 tooth lower gear as it was in new condition.
