I have known for a while my budget (wife) would not allow a SD to be purchased new so I have decided to build one with the help of a MB lower I picked up a year ago. Here is my progress for now, still trying for figure it out, but I'm coming along. Started with the 27" MB lower I picked up from a user here. After looking for a housing or a 8"x2" rectangle tub with no luck, I decided to weld one up. I'm not a welder so all the seams will need to be ground and smoothed. After a search on McMaster & Carr I found the timingbelt and gears for the MB lower and from Harbor Freight a new predator motor. I just started on the transom mount (again building from scratch, and welds are definitely not pro quailty.) I should be able to start bolting everything together this week to see about fitment and alignment as most all the parts are here. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk |

I got the Motion Base mocked up and aligned. Now I'm waiting on the darn Woodruff Key forthe lower gear. Having issues finding a metric key. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk |

I ran into my first major design snag. Maybe I have not noticed it in other engines, but the mounting plate is off center to the shaft of the motor by about 3/4". This doesnt make a large difference in the overall idea I have in my brain, but definatly frusterating it didn't initially work as expected for further progress last night. The GoDevil Surface Drive frame, transom mount, and outdrive are 100% plate steel, and no heavier than the competition. This one will be just fine. |
