Post subject: | Help. Gator Tail Rear Bearing Housing |
I had to change my prop seals on my 2015 GTR35. I did everything by the book. Now that it's time to get my bearing housing back on it is seizing up on me as I screw it in. I can't figure out why it is locking up so much about three or four turns in. It's acting like it's cross threaded but I swear it's not. Any suggestions? |

Found the answer to my own question and figured I would leave a reply to help you all if you run into the same thing. Bearing Housing = Stainless Steel Lower Unit Housing = Aluminum Be very careful when you put the Bearing Housing back in because the weight of the shaft can start it cross threaded and you can't tell. Gator-tail says the best thing to do is to lift up on the shaft until you get it in screwed in as far as you can with your hand. If you screw it up (like I did) the stainless bearing housing will gall the threads in the lower unit. A cast lower unit like mine is $400 from Gator-Tail. Good times. |

Yessireee, The only thing holding the rear of the shaft is a seal in the housing.. and it does deflect some. |
