Post subject:  GDSD 35 - Manual Trim Knob SPINS OFF - HELP

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a 2011 35hp GDSD that I've ran on a weldbilt for five years. I just got a go-devil hull so I need to adjust the manual trim knob due to the difference in transom angles. When I turned the manual trim knob counter-clockwise to raise the trim, the knob itself unthreaded right off of the threaded shaft. I thought I could use a crescent wrench and just turn the nut that is holding the spring on....but that just loosens the spring and nut but doesn't turn the threaded bolt. I called coco and he told me to put a wrench on the trim knob and one on the nut while simultaneously turning each wrench in opposite directions to "marry" the knob to the nut. It DOES marry them, but will NOT allow me to turn to trim up.

Any advice?

Thanks,
Casey

Use some penetrating oil where the trim bolt goes in. Spray it between the frame part and the spring then where the bolt comes out the back side. May even have to put some heat to it. Sounds like it's locked up from rust. Once it's free use a little anti seize and that should keep it from happening again.

I thought counter clockwise dropped the trim?

Yeah that's how mine is, counter to lower. I put some blue loctite on the knob when I changed out the trim bolt. No issues.

You need to turn it counter clockwise looking at the stern of the boat to get it out. As a rule, I always wipe off excess grease every time I grease the pivot points on the frame and wipe it in those threads. Mine are still smooth as butter. My maintainance schedule is a little more intensive than most though.
