 PD Lower unit removal/motor removal
I've replaced a lower unit on my old 27 without a problem about 2 years ago. Now I'm trying to do it on a 36, which should be the same but a bit heavier. I've tried everything and I have to be missing something. Removed the four bolts/spacers and the motor aint budging.

shaft is probly stuck to the coupling under the clutch. spray sum lube in there and let it soak a while, then use a come-a-long/ chain hoist to lift off engine. it will come off.

^^^^^^X2... U might have to stick a pry bar up under the spline coupler and help it out while ur lifting on the engine to get it to budge.

Re: PD Lower unit removal/motor removal
I've tried everything I can think of and nothing.
step 1: remove the four plate spacers bolts and the clutch bolts....as per prodrive's directions.
What are the clutch bolts? Sorry for my unintelligent question.

Re: PD Lower unit removal/motor removal
You dont need to remove the clutch bolts unless your removing the clutch. Like others have said. The shaft is stuck in the coupler, the round black piece connected to the clutch. The shaft just slides up into it. Spray some penetrating oil in the top of the coupler and let it set awhile.

Re: PD Lower unit removal/motor removal
UM.........it kinda sound like you have taken the wrong 4 bolts out.....been there done that!!!! Make sure you are removing the correct spacers. If you have taken the motor bolts out put them back in and remove the bolts from the mounting plate to the lower unit. Should come off if the lower unit was lubed properly. If not i just pulled like hell with my forklift and taped on the lowerunit with a hammer and the pusted right off. For what its worth if you are having to replace the lowerunit only not the tilt or anythign like that make sure you have an extra hand. It is kinda sticky n tricky the first time......kinda like all first times later
