Post 2017 GTR lower unit seals
He guys I’m new to mud motors and have a used 2017 GTR 37 efi. Trying to replace lower unit seals. Having trouble from the start. It is the newer cone shape lower unit. Can’t find any pics or videos of the process. How do I get the bearing cup off ? I don’t want to break it doing it wrong. Thanks for your help.

Not sure if yours is the same as mine on my 40, cause gatortail has a great habit of changing small things every year on the lower units, but you should be able to just put a pipe wrench on the bearing cup and unscrew it. From there you will have your bearings and possibly 2 seals. Mine had two. Do yourself a favor and order a pick and bearing remover tool kit from amazon befor you embark on this mission. Makes lift a lot easier and helps prevent ruining your bearings playing around with a screw driver. I did a post on this not too long ago you may be able to search too bro

He doesnt have the machined lower. It's not the same. Marcus or someone with experience with that cast lower will be along soon to help.

Looking at the pic closer, you are correct. For some reason I thought the machined lowers came out at the end of 2016, but after looking at that pic closer, you are right, plus I should have know that since he has a grease inlet on the top

Thanks for trying to help out. I will call gator tail tomorrow. I did find the post that was very detailed with pics. Hopefully after I get thru this first step it will be close to the same. I will then follow it step by step.
Thanks

No problem, hope you figured everything out bud

Blue - yeah I never really thought about that, but you are correct. I’ve seen some guys put a few of the new parts on their older model gatortails like you are saying and you really can’t tell the difference other than the handle like you said

Left hand threads, tighten to loosen. Take your time when you put the housing back on! They cross thread easily! There is 2 seals and a bearing in the bearing housing, on the shaft there is a seal wear sleeve that the seals ride on with 2 o'rings under it and a inner bearing race. There is also a seal that rides on the shaft about 4-5 inches inside the shaft housing,
