i been froggin in some heavy grass, the kind that you don't see gt's in. i been running a couple props i got worked at baggy's and they are terriffic in the grass/lillies, but i have broken 5 cavitation plates since i started using them. lol i switched back to a stock pd prop and it sucks in the heavy grass, but it is balanced and doesn't snap cav plates. anybody else having this problem?

guess i'm fixin to run without a cav plate.

I’m guessing that cavitation plate only keeps you from chewing the ass off your boat in FPR.. trim up before reversing and roll out.
Mine was cracked from the same thing. No difference performance

If you think that the props aren’t balanced, come bring them to me and I can check them for you bro

thanks bro, i will do that when i get some time. i am beginning to think i might just have a bent prop shaft. i been beating it up lately. if the stock prop breaks off another cav plate, im just gonna put on yalls worked prop and let it eat till the shaft breaks, then regroup. lol

talk about a differance between the two props. with the worked prop i can trim up to where the grass slides off the skeg and then the prop has enough cup to just jump on step. way less slip out the hole. and that first 10' or so is everything when u want to get moving.

You might have a bent shaft bro. I highly doubt that the props are out of balance unless you took a chunk out of one at some
Point by hitting something. Let me know what you find out bro

Baggy closed for the week due to constrictions one businesses inside the city, regulated by parish president orders. I haven’t been in the shop in 3 weeks because of my regular work.

I have a gen 3 36 on a 1648 and it is terrible in lillies and thick grass.
Did you do anything to skeg to improve it?

i think the size of your boat is the hurting you the most. shorter boats tryin to get on step in tough conditions just don't do it as well as a longer boat. i've seen this time and time again over the years.
i'm running the latest skeg that pd has, it's probly a little differant than yours. it is shorter and stops right at the prop. my boat sucks with a stock prop too. it's the prop that really makes a differance.
it cost about $130 for baggy to redo a prop. it will do alot better in the grass/lillies. instead of slipping it will bite and get you moving.
at least that is what has worked for me. when it's real bad i just take my airboat. lol

I've had 2 props worked by baggy and was happy with both. I just got a ca-57 back from him, that he added some cup to. While he had it, i bought a merc 40 2 blade and it runs like shit on my boat. Less power (i have a heavy ass boat) and the tiller torque is ridiculous.

Post subject:  Re: grass, grass, and more grass....

well.... got my props back and ran both of them. one shook bad enough it took out the cavitation plate on one fishing trip. lol
put the other one on and it was smoother, but had the motor searching so bad at wfo that it was no fun to drive and lost 2 bolts on the skeg. lol
both pulled good out the hole.

i know Baggy is a prop genius, and i have alot of respect for what he has accomplished over the years. that being said, i'm gonna just run stock pd props until he gets the pd props figured out like he has done with the other motors.
hopefully soon i'll get a new gen 4 with a hex and then i'll have better prop options.

it's all good, no worries.

Send me the wheel that was the worst out of the two with vibrations and I’m going to check it and go through it myself free of any charge. Something isn’t right if you are getting vibrations that bad and I would like to check it again and try something else with it.

thanks bro, but i'm good. I threw them 2 props in the pile with my other old props. life's too short for me to worry about it!!!!

i threw an old prop on my unit and will roll with it like that. nice and smooth!!!!

I cut the back out of my cav plate to allow the veggies somewhere to go. the stock prop clearance is probably less and cramming it all against the plate. I'll look for a picture but take a 2" hole saw and go in, drill a hole in the vertical riser and cut the rest out. leaves a good gap for the crap.

Here's an old picture.

Just remove the cav plate. It serves no purpose other than to keep you from chewing up the bottom of your boat with the prop. With the cav plate off, you don’t need FPR. I. Telling you, the motor finds a whole nother gear...especially in the mud.

yep, i took off the cav plate and been running it like that. the stock pd prop that sucked balls with the cav plate on is now a beast with the cav plate off.

hadn't been running mud, just tons of hydrilla and floton/lillies, u were correct, it's a bad mofo.

In reading this post, got me to thinking. Been running a worked Baggy prop this season, only a few trips, but noticed pretty major vibration unless I trimmed it down far enough the the vibration to lesson. I just thought it need some break in time. I may send it in this Spring and have them check it for balance. I have another one I was thinking of sending, but not sure now.

That being said the reworked prop I noticed it got on step like butter and immediate.
