I need some help, I just bought a 18x54 prodrive boat and 36hp motor with manual trim and reverse. I went riding this weekend but I was dissapointed on how the motor was handiling in the mud. I had about 1ft of water and mixture of soft and hard mud but it would not get me out of this situation. This happend to me a couple of times, I had to actually get out and push which was no big deal. It did run fine in deep water. I tried to trim it up and down and move it side to side but all I had was mud everywhere. I am guessing in the manual trim that when you are in mud the lower unit will not crank down when the prop is hitting mud anymore becuse I tried and all I could see was the wheel just turnig untill I hit deeper water. Should I change it to a hydraulic trim? The motor was able to go through real soft mud with no issues. Am I doing something wrong? I did see when I did hit shallow muddy water that I was doing fine until I slowed down and than all my issues started. This is my first Prodrive motor so any assistance would appreciated. ![]() |

Shallow hard bottom can give you fits. Experience is worth it weight in gold and time on the tiller will solve alot of your issues. I don't know how anyone can get by with the wheel. I am on the trim all the time in the chit. Thats why the ol running joke with member Mudhole was so funny, He was known as the wheel man and he got plenty of practice cussing us. If you can imagime 10 boats pull up to him sweatin his azz off on that wheel trying to get moving and everyone trimming up and down forking with him. ![]() ![]() |

x2 on the tiller time. I got the trim wheel on my 32 pd and i live in Iowa. We hunt in WI, IA, MN, and ND. The ground up here is never a "soft" mud. Hard bottom is the devil. Over time you will know what to run in and how to run it. These motors are not a fix all to our problems, they are a tool and one just needs to know how and when to use it. |

My motor is by no means close to the caliber of everybody else's on here, but I know this - our bottoms are hard and sandy here, and to run through it I have to lift my prop out of the water and hold it in the "sweet spot" where it can push the boat but not drag bottom, maybe that will help you. If the prop drags bottom most of the time here, it will just bounce, we don't have a whole lot of soft mud like you guys in LA do. |

So the GT's secret is you have more reach to get down and get a better bite in that mud you have to search out to be able to show up a PD????? Priceless. But it has no real world value to anyone other than the very few folks that search out that kind of just right mud to play in in the first place. So hats off to the mighty GT and the 1 area that you have a little advantage in......... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Chit a MB is just a GT without reverse, whereas a PD is unique. ![]() Having ran all 4 of the major manufactures designs in the same conditions, I'll stay with the PD. Unless of course Hoyt/Kyle would build me a GTR frame to throw my Small Block Kohler engine on, shouldn't be to hard considering they used to offer it. |

I got a few ?? for you die hard pd fellers!!! Why if the mud is tougher to go trough up north yall say bring yall gt exc.mm up here and yall will show us southern boys how much better the pd's are.. If you cant run with the gt in the south what the fork you think going north is gonna do for yall.. Do they send the bad boys north or something!!!!If so i think that is racist!! You run down a narrow ditch for miles and come out in reverse so that means that the gt boys cant go in narrow places so we just stay in mud flats and lakes!!!!(That is a good one) Now not once have i ever i mean ever seen a video to back up all these claims.. Have anyone ever posted a video of a pd pulling on the side of a stuck gt and just left!! If yall have one please post so i can see this!! On the other hand i have plenty !! In that video has it ever once downed on yall i never even used my reverse.. I never even gave it full trottle!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E87ddUyl ... 8b1a105f0a |
