Nice I never heard about baiting for ducks until I got on mmt. Always heard about baiting doves and deer. Didn't think you could actually bait ducks. Anyways I do everything legal. Except for speeding on the highway

Our local wardens carry a sain with them for the sole purpose of checking spots for bait... Dont ask how I know....

Ducks love grain, they feed in rice fields here all the time.

They shoot em in dry corn fields up north all the time.

Yeah I know. But what happens if you get corn and throw it in the water?
I didn't think wild ducks would eat corn or bread thrown into a little pond.

They will eat the shit out of it, they like the carbs.

Woodies will get up on the bank and eat from your deer corn pile.

Yeah but if you have private land you can put up deer feeders to manage the herd and pigs. What If I wanna put one close to the swamp? Or a pond what are the rules with thAt? :D
And I don't gotta shoot the ducks. I would enjoy watching wood ducks.

This is all hypothetical I'm just asking. I wish I had some land. Maybe in the future though. And if I had the land then I would just plant some rice or corn or both. And all y'all could come hunt it. :)

You "legally" cannot hunt over bait. Even if your deer feeder threw some in the pond. If it was put there by man (you) and not there naturally (corn don't grow in the swamps), and you hunted ducks over it, you stand a very good chance of getting caught and arrested. You can bait them all year, but it has to be removed prior to hunting that area.

How they allow rice/grain/corn fields to be hunted is beyond me. 90% of those farmers raise that stuff to feed ducks/geese and then turn around and lease the land to hunters and make a killing off it.

I'm from Tyler Tx too and we limit on woodies almost every morning. Willing to trade a hunt for a good Louisiana hunt. Jace and eastexdux88 where y'all usually hunt around here?

Dats why I want duck tags. 60 x 6 = 360 tags. I'll even take a cut and they can give 250 duck tags a season....... That way when its good I can keep on rockin and not have to stop at 6 for the day. Would make up for all those bad days.

we have some ahole's around here that will shoot the sh't out of the woodies and mergansers and when i get back to the boat landing my dog starts bringin me birds from in the woods. piles of them. i have yet to catch these motherf'ckers. someday though!!! a few other kinds of ducks too but mostly woodies and mergansers. i know mergansers arent the best of tasting but you shoot it...you eat it. or at least throw it in the freezer for next years dog conditioning before duck season starts.

That is the one duck we are ate up with in south GA, get over this way during the season, you can hunt all you want and don't have to trade a thing. You are welcome to come if you are ever over this way. You can hunt the lake, we have a mess of beaver ponds and river swamps with them or you can drift the river during the early season at sunrise then fish for shoal bass and or redbreast after you limit out.
