Post Looking for places to hunt around Central Texas
I live in San Marcos Texas and am looking for a duck lease or something of the sorts around my area? If anyone has any information about this, it would be really helpful! Thanks

Waste of time. There's not enough ducks to make it worth buying a stamp.

Go south...... South of San antonio..... find a cattle rancher around choke canyon.... it's about a 2 to 2.5 hour drive from San marcos. You can also hunt choke but the water is so low it's a real hard hunt.... but the birds get up every morning and fly out to stock ponds.....

Its about 3hr 33min from San Marcus to Matatgorda but lots of good hunting down there. Ive hunted that area a lot and tell you where to go and lodging. There is east and west maragorda bay split by the CO river. West bay will give you a mix bag but stay away from the south shore line since its private and it is enforced. East bay will give you a bunch of blue bills and red heads and south shore line is public. You can buy a beach pass and drive to a spot as long as its not a low tide but dont try the beach unless you have a 4x4.

Outside Huntsville is the Trinity river and thats about 3hr 22min drive for ya. I didn't do too well there this year since I was getting in the thick of the woods looking for woodies but as a teen I hunted that area and did good.

Send me a PM if you head to any of those area and ill fill you in on what i know about it.

Sully
