Post New 40hp comparisons
Looking to buy a new 40hp surface drive and was wondering if anyone had any first hand knowledge on the new go-devil with the newly redesigned bracket and electric trim compared to the newest versions of the 40hp gator tail, mud buddy and boss in speed, weight, torque steer, balance and over all handling? Any info would be appreciated

I bought a 40 Godevil FNR with reverse and trim. I put it on a 1854 gtr hull. Speeds with stock 3 blade is around 30-31 . There is 0 vibration with 0 tiller torque unlike my gtr. I can drive it with 2 fingers.

The reverse is awesome. Its better than a gtr reverse that's for sure.

It handles like a dream compared to others. The boss drives great also but that's about the only good thing about a Boss. I'm not sure in weight but its alot heavier than a GTR.

The Go-devil brings in a big price tag though. Mine was $11,022 out the door.

I’m not sure about the new gdsd... I do have a new 40gt on a xpress bayou 18/50 and I am getting32.5 mpg... reverse is very good with it trimmed down of course... I really like godevil but prob will never own another one... it is a night mare trying to get parts from them if you didn’t buy the motor new from them..heck they need a bill of sell and serialized frame to buy a prop. you gotta bring in serilized frame and bill of sell ect... I had a longtail and almost had to fight with them to buy the bushings and seals... to me godevil Always thought they were the best with long tails and took way to long to get with the new market on surface drives and reverse and power trim ect... now they playing catch up cause the realized the missed the market and comming up with 6 year old technology and making it like they invented the wheel and it’s the latest and greatest...

Why is that? Cause of the quick drop bracket? Only other reason is it comes with a stock 3 blade prop and 3 blades are known for much better reverse... other than that I focus my energy on going forward lol if your not first your last...that’s what I have always heard lmbo

Where you located? Im in bayou black, come drive my boat and see for yourself.
I had gtr since 2010, with several thousands of hours of tiller time.

The quick drop bracket isnt on the trim models. The stock GD 3 blade works great in reverse compared to others. But a 12p big blade is insane in reverse.

if I didn't need a powerfull reverse like I have on my pd, I would have to look hard at that 40 godevil.

It’s been my experience that go devils don’t break. I had a long tail with over 3k hours on it and that sold me on the brand. I run a gatortail now because I like to go fast, but as far as reliability, go devil is your choice, reverse and getting in the really nasty stuff, prodrive is your choice, going fast and getting through moderate stuff, gatortail is your choice.

Do it all and outrun big outboards, get a swamp shark, cause that’s my next purchase lol
