X2.. Seems like speeds are getting better. Was that shallow water?

Post subject:  Re: GTR 37 EFI on 18x60 Go Devil **re-powered**

No that was in the river. Probably close to 40ft deep at the moment. There was current but very little.
It ran 26 against the current with 2 whole duck blinds in the boat and 29.5 empty.

Shallow water: steady 29mph

River with current:
Upriver steady 27-27mph
Down river steady 30mph hit 31 once

Needless to say im beyond happy with this motor and extremely impressed. Idk a whole whole lot about these things still but to me 30mph in a 18x60 barge seems pretty effin quick.

How was that throttle response? ;)
And yeah stock exhaust definitely has a deeper tone to it. I put my Marshmellow on my new motor and the throtle is even more responsive. It even has a little whistle when i let of the throttle, sounds like a turbo winding down.

Thanks for the great review. I'm considering putting one on my GD hull. have you had any issues with the 37 since the post?

Have not, the more i run it and break it in the better its performing. First i ran it top speed was 27 in calm water and 28-29 in the river now im getting 28-29 in calm water and 30 all day in the river

Ran today with a heavy load, roughly 1000lbs. (6 full grown adults + dog)
It was bargeing bad at idle speed, the beam of the boat was only about 3" from the water and it was just plowing hard. I wasn't really expecting it to plane out but to my surprise it hoped up rather quickly and ran steady 23/24 mph. In about 20ft of water too 8-)

That's pretty sweet. I ran my new boat yesterday and managed to hit 29 by myself and 26 with me and two other guys.(around 700 lbs. total)

I know the 1860 will haul some weight, but when you're on step with the boat loaded up decently it's pretty nerve racking watching that waterline creep up in the back. We had probably 1000 lbs. in it the other day and there was green water getting coming up past the gunwale. Granted it was getting thrown to the sides, but it was a decent wall of water.

I experienced that for the first time yesterday in mine. Me plus 3 healthy fellas, two loaded down 75qt coolers, one 55qt, lawn chairs BBQ pit... I got it on step but I took plenty of time slowing down lol. Making a turn and seeing the amount of water that is higher than the side of the boat is a little off-putting

Mine tends to do that too lol if i turn to hard to fast that corner on the transom dips down there to about water level.

I am waiting on a review of the 37 EFI on a longtail. Can you run 87 octane? Are the plugs standard? What oil is recommended? Somewhere someone mentioned to be careful not to engage the key because a surge might harm the EFI components? Good review!

Post subject:  Re: GTR 37 EFI on 18x60 Go Devil **re-powered**

Yeah i run regular in mine, i was told to run supreme in them it's better for it but I don't think its that big of a deal. And if you have a bad battery connection and turn the key on it could fry the ECM thingy or whatever its called lol

Post subject:  Re: GTR 37 EFI on 18x60 Go Devil **re-powered**

Slide it on the transom opposite the way it was torqueing. Mine was pushing towards me so i slid it to port side. If its pulling away from you move it starboard. I also put a good bit of JB weld on the skeg where it has a curve

Post subject:  Re: GTR 37 EFI on 18x60 Go Devil **re-powered**

Yea when I make a left turn the motor pushes hard against me ...can you take a pic of how you put the jb weld on

Post subject:  Re: GTR 37 EFI on 18x60 Go Devil **re-powered**

How far you moved the motor over

Author:  Quack N Stack [ Thu May 21, 2015 11:25 am ]
Post subject:  Re: GTR 37 EFI on 18x60 Go Devil **re-powered**

I'll get a pic of it next time im up at the shop where the boats at.
And i moved it over about an inch, should have went an inch an half but oh well it cut the torque down enough. If your brave enough everyone says to leave it unbolted and just tighten the clamps and adjust as needed but I didn't wanna take that chance and slid it over what I thought would be good and bolted it.

Yeah it still has plenty of tiller torque but it more bareable now. They all have torque

Post subject:  Re: GTR 37 EFI on 18x60 Go Devil **re-powered**

Honestly, no. Now that i got it moved, makeing a left turn it still has a good bit of push but it's easily manageable and a right turn is a piece of cake, feels about like an outboard. That GD used whip my ass on long rides abd i still drive it every now an then on my buddys alweld and its just as bad if not worse.

In all seriousness and no shit talking, i wish i would have taken the time and went this route to begin with. Only reason I went with the GD route was there was a dealer 20 minutes down the road and they said they could send me out the door the same day with a rig, and they did, and not have to wait on an order. Only thing i really miss about it is the turn radius it had.

Post subject:  Re: GTR 37 EFI on 18x60 Go Devil **re-powered**

I just don't know if could drop that kind of money on a brand new motor, then have to mount it off centered, then make a JB weld wedge for it to drive right, and then STILL have some sort of push/pull. I'm glad you're satisfied with it I just don't know why GT hasn't done more to correct it, it's not exactly an isolated deal.

I'd be curious what mine would do next to yours both light loaded, same powerhead, same hull, the only difference being the drive/frame. It would make for a good comparison for comparisons sake. Maybe one day...
