I said it WOULD NOT OUT RUN A MOD ENGINE. I tell you what. If it isn't a gator tail. the rest is junk. Yall think yall no everything about surfacedrives.one of these days you gonna break down. And a boss is gonna drag you back to the dock. All the info I've got off of this site is miss information. Minus a couple of guys. All yall do is talk s**t. This site should be called the gator tail s**t talking forum
Cause I guess that's all you can do while your drive is in the shop.

Back to the Boss H; does anyone know what was done since Boss' involvement to address the broken handles, lower unit leaks, and other casting problems?
Only because the Boat Dr. is a local Boss dealer, and I've had nothing but great experiences working with them, am I again considering the Boss H, but it's surprisingly hard to find any information from folks running them. I'm looking for a new motor right now but I'm not interested in being a guinea pig, so I'd certainly like to know what was done to address any of the previous deficiencies and defects as well as hear some real world reviews.

Looks like boss drives will be working out of a separate shop now in highway 108 in sulphur instead of out if there Howell industries location in sulphur. They my must be doing pretty good in sales evidently. Hopefully good things to come.

Comments:

I haven't had much time to get out with it yet, only 5 hours. Within the first few hours I had a weld crack on the cav plate. I sent in a picture of it and Boss shipped a new one out within a week. I also noticed the trailering pin is a little short, it hardly slides under the motion base. Let them know about that also, and they are sending a new (longer) one of those also. So far customer service has been great.

I switched from the big blade prop to a hammer and gained a little speed ( around 1 mph). I also didn't lose any rpms, I have been running around 4100.

The motor its self is very easy to drive. I switched from a mud buddy 4500. It doesn't have the tiller torque that the MB had. It feels like driving a higher HP outboard. It takes a littl pressure to turn, but it doesn't push back at you. Having the TRUE instant reverse is really nice. Just flip the lever and go.

The one thing that I do have a problem with is with the Briggs EFI. It started out that the idle was set too low. There is a manual adjustment screw, so I played with it today. At first it was at 1050, but after getting warmed up, it would drop down below 700 and die when I shifted. So I turn it up to around 1200 after it was warmed up. Same thing, can't keep it running after shifting in gear without giving it immediate throttle. Another problem is that it wont stay consistent. The rpms where all over the place in neutral, went from 2000 down to 900. It's very frustrating and right now I can't find a local briggs dealer who wants to touch an EFI engine. It's also very sluggish starting from a dead stop, but after a few seconds it takes right off.

I haven't had it In any mud yet, water is a little high for that right now.

Well if you adjusted your idle manually you need to reset the TPS to hold your consistent idle. Briggs uses an IAC to maintain a specific set idle.

Everybody can say what they want about mudbuddy. I live on the water and ran a mudbuddy 35 with mods for years daily . I put 400hrs on it without ONE single issue I feel like I got my money's worth. Sold it to a friend who's put another 100 on it. I bought a boss 4400 and currently have 50 hrs on it and I'm satisfied. It runs faster and gets thru the hyacinth better than my 35 did. Everybody wants to talk crap about them but 2/3 of you haven't ever driven one. The problem is all of you wanna follow suit and have a gtr and when somebody starts taking shit then y'all have to follow as well. Don't talk shit you know nothing about. I look the these post about motor problems and see post after post of gtr with trim issue, reverse issue , wiring issue you name it. Muddy buddy or boss doesn't need a cheerleading team like gtr to sell motors. I could waste my time talking shit about gtrs but why? I've drove around enough of them to speak for itself

400 hrs with years of daily use.? Old motor had 350 in alittle over a year & 1/2, new ones is about to roll 50 after 3 months. 500 hours aint shit on these things. I personally have seen 3 motors with 1200+ hours on them, and im sure there are many many more. Anything will last if you baby it. There are alot of people on here including myself who like to see just what these things are capable of,

I'm not sure of the total hour because of taxes going in and out but I know it's well over 1500.

My neighbor fishes crawfish for a living . I think he has around 4000 hrs on his unit. Not sure if it's the same powerhead or not but it's highly doubtful that it is

Post Re: New boss motors any reviews?
Ok so i started this post and i would like to add a one last thing to it. So far i have put 150 hard hrs on my boss 37. I know thats not much at all. but when i say hard. I mean trying to break. and so far all ive broke is a cavitation plate. hate a problem with high idle but that was a five dollar fix and a little lash valve adjusting. Ive ran it threw heavy veg, oyster refs, mud flats, sand flats, pushed four guys at a total of 620 lbs and got 24 mph threw marsh mud. got a crab trap in the wheel. pulled a inner tub. backed down while stacking hug chunks of mud. backed into some cypress knees at some pretty good speeds. ran in flooding ran. 30 mph winds. ran a ground more then i care to mention . jumped everything that looked like a ramp. Im not a spokes person for Boss. But i tell you what. Im pretty impressed. Even my ten yr old nephew that weights 86 lbs can drive it. Any Minor problems i had. Kane at boss was right there. every word out of his mouth was. NO PROBLEM. Yesterday i went to the dealer where i bought my Boss. they had five on the show room floor. All five had sold tags on them. So

28.5 sounds pretty good. Also with 150 hrs how is the reverse lock thing? Do you like it? I know people with GTR's lift the motor out the water in reverse to blow the grass and drop it back in to reverse In think grass. What's your thoughts? Would you buy a carb motor like a 4400 if you had to buy again?
