 1848 Garrett Pearce Bateau
Got the new battleship painted. Figured I'd go ahead and start a review. I'll just update it as I go.
Garrett was a pleasure to deal with. We actually ordered two of these exact hulls. We told him what we wanted and when we'd be there to pick em up, and he made it happen. Anyone in the market for a custom boat should def give him a shout.
Specs: 1848 3/16 bottom and transom 1/8 sides Tall transom and sides 5 2x2 long runners 4 2x2 cross braces Tapered chine
Hope to get the motor almost finished this Sunday and start electrical on Monday.

 Re: 1848 Garrett Pearce Bateau
That trailer is a phuckin beast!! We found a great deal on new galvanized ones which is what my dad wound up doing. I was probably less than 24 hours from pulling the trigger on one of em when I found this thing. 350 bucks and I may have another 100 in it total. Was really the only one I found that was long enough but not 10 freakin feet wide. Still got to figure out something different with the winch, but other than that its workin out great.

Send the rain this way. Cows are about to start eating hay if you don't.

 Re: 1848 Garrett Pearce Bateau
I don't know if this was done on purpose or not, but that is a good idea not having decking over the runners on that last little bit before the deck so that you can take a water hose and clean out underneath the floor.

 Re: 1848 Garrett Pearce Bateau
If you rivet the gas tank down, at the end of each season you can pop the tank out and clean under the floor real good and get all that shit out that will be under there.

 Re: 1848 Garrett Pearce Bateau
Probably gonna just get some Stainless nuts and bolts and put it in that way. It has tabs on it. I would still be able to do what you are talking about though at the end of the season. Good suggestion!

 Re: 1848 Garrett Pearce Bateau
I just use portable "topside" 6 gal tanks & have a strap with a snap buckle holding it in place. Quick & easy to pull the tank for fueling & cleaning.

rivnuts work good too. You don't have to hold backup. They are like a rivet that is treaded thru the middle. Nice looking rig.

 Re: 1848 Garrett Pearce Bateau
Looks good man. Congrats on the new rig. With that Steelflex on the bottom of your boat you may want to consider trailer bunks on the side in case your tie down doesn't hold!
Looks good...keep posting up the progress pictures.

I have the side bunks. I just had not put them back on. I painted it on the trailer and they were in the way.

 Re: 1848 Garrett Pearce Bateau
Well, we got to put a lil over 10 hours on it this weekend at Caddo. Very happy with it. Turns like a dream. The tapered chines are nice, fa sho. You can still get it to break free, but for the most part it digs in to the turns very well. Handled a load exceptionally well. The more work I get done on it, and the more I'm able to use it, the happier I am with it. Didn't get a chance to really get any good reads on the GPS. We just finished building the motor on Weds night before the run. The gov was actin' up a lil bit and when I turned it up to 4300 or so, it was pulling the idle up with it. Need to move a spring or change a spring or something. I wasn't having a hard time keeping up with the group at 3600 or so, and figured that it would be good for it to break in around that neighborhood anyway, so I just left it. I did crank the gov up once by myself and hit 29 at around 42-4300 before I could blink. I shut her down, reset the gov, and left it alone for the rest of the weekend. At 3600-3700, it ran low to mid 20's with whatever I had in it. Didn't matter if I was by myself or if I had the crew with me. I'm thinking it will run right around 30 once I get the gov right, and the motor didn't seem to mind any loads, so I'm assuming it will run high 20's with a couple people and gear with me. With 3 people and a cooler, it would jump right out on step and be on the governor in no time. Throttle response is outstanding. Still need to finish up a few small things on the motor, get the gas tank painted, hydroturf, still throwing the idea around of camo paint, put my numbers on, etc. Once I get it a lil closer to finished and get the motor dialed in, I'll get some more pic's and speeds up for you guys. Big thanks to Garrett, DB8, Craig, BoatDr, the boys at PD, and Stumpgrinder for helping me get everything together and a few pointers along the way. Oh, and I guess I could thank my Lil bro as well. He helped me out quite a bit getting the trailer together, and helped me get the last little bit of stuff done to the motor to get us ready for Caddo. Thanks Jeff.

 Re: 1848 Garrett Pearce Bateau
Lookin' at the green camo. Wife's Mom's Cousin's Daughter (whatever that is ) said she could paint the boat and match the turf so I'm thinkin' about lettin' her have a stab at it. We liked the swamp camo, but it doesn't come in the larger sheets.

 Re: 1848 Garrett Pearce Bateau
Yeah, I'm not paying a premium to order one of the proprietary colors. I'll stick with the one's that I can order from hydroturf or Robert's buddy. If they still had the grey seconds, I'd be allllll over that.
