I know they work great on a 1648. I personally wouldn't go smaller than that, though I'm sure you could get away with it. |

I have a 35 on a 16x44. I would suggest getting a bigger boat if that is an option for you. I plan to replace mine in the near future. |

No shorter than a 16'. 48 is a good width but you can go to 44 |

Anything shorter than a 16, you better get familiar with the science of trim tabs and wedges. |

Why do you want a small boat? |

There are people that could put a 20' skiff in a place you couldn't put a 14x36. Tiller time will fix most problems. |

There is alot more that goes into "if a motor will run on a boat" that the overall dimentions. Like, how long the rake is (or more specifically how short is the plane-ing surface), is the boat as wide at the bow as the stern or does it taper down, how many and were are boxes/storage placed, how large is the front deck, etc etc. I have put 35's on a couple 1448's, but I have also found a couple 1850's that wouldnt hold a 35. But the general consensus is that most people recomend nothing less than a 1648. |

A 17'-18' hull can hide in the same places a 16' can but will provide a much better running hull IMO. |

I hate to get off topic from what the guy asked.... But I agree. Don't buy a small boat because you think it'll go more places or hide better. You'd be mistaken. |

unless your looking at weight, motor and boat price ,less fuel burn ,maybe you and 1 other guy only, or hunt bye yourself or just don't need a bigger rig? run a few and see what you like |

I ran my first gatortail on a 14'x48"...it was fast but wasn't good with more than myself (300lbs) and one other person... i switched to a 16'x48" and was content... didn't lose much as far as speed and it did fine with 3 people...any more than that it would be in a bind on a stock engine... |
