well finally got out to run my new boat 1856 phowler with 36 pd. this is my first sd and i'm still learning how to drive it. everything seemed to work great. running wide open i was running about 3700-3800 rpm trimmed with about half the prop in the water played around with the trim quite a bit and this seemed like the sweet spot. does this sound about right for the rpm range??? will get some gps speeds and pics when i take my brother out with me. this is a stock pd for now until i learn how to drive it. only problem i had was trying to load it on the trailer in current. found out you really have to stay on the throttle with a slick bottom boat like this or it don't steer for s**t.

Sounds right for a stock motor on that boat.

the rpm's sound a bit low to me, and that boat will carry one hell of a load.
p.s. when you decide to do mods a stage 1(heads,cam,ehaust)is a good choice,it produces good power and is reliable

What are you RPMs on the trailer? Set them at 4200. They will be different for everyone on the water due to differences in hulls and load at the time.

scatters boy if you say the rpm's are a little low what abouts should it be with this type of hull? more around 4000 rpm? also is there a rev limiter on the 36 pd? thanks to the rest of you guys for your replies.

I have a 1756 phowler extreme. I have a MB 45 blk death on it and it ran 4200-4280 rpm's. Now I did the cam and coils and I can run 4400/4500 with a not so good prop. Thats why with your stock motor you are prob about right I would say.

i have a prodrive 1754 (heavy ass boat) and I have a stock 36 pd with a marsh mellow exhaust. On plane at wot and optimum trim I run about 4150 on average. good slick water it will hit 4220 rpm. Make sure you have enough weight in the front to keep nose down. if its riding a little high it will put a little more load on motor.

i have a 1654 lakesport w/36 PD bone stock and wot in smooth water i run 3840-3870 is steady max in open water. granted the bottom of my boat is pretty beat up and it is not a slick bottom. constant max speed with me 250 and my son 110 we run 24 mph. open and shallow it hits 25 at times
