Post 23 GDSD review
Coco talked me out of getting a 27 for my 1540 Riveted Aluminacraft Boat and I got my Motor a couple days ago. I found out that if you see a couple guys running down the road with your Surface Drive, let them go. They are too bad to mess with anyway.

I got the Motor mounted and found that the Battery Cables were too short to put the Battery in front of the seat. It had to go behind the seat under the Motor.

On my Boat the Tiller Handle was just a little short forcing me to stand side ways to drive the boat and I could not fasten a Rope to hold the Motor up, in front of the Seat. The Handle did not extend past the Rear Seat.

Everything else was great. I went out today and the Boat held the Motor fine. No idea on speeds right now but it was plenty fast.

I ordered a Rock Guard and I expected the Motor to act like a Conventional Boat Motor but it didn't. It came up on plane pretty quick almost like a Long Tail, carrying me (240) and my Wife(160). My Boat is heavy carrying two batteries, an Anchor system, a 50lb Tackle Box, Cooler, and a heavy Troll motor.

I then picked up my Daughter an additional 150lbs and I could tell a difference, but it still got on plane pretty quick.

What really surprised me was how the Motor floated like a Long Tail. I thought this may have been because of the Rock Guard. After getting on Plane the Motor rose up and Floated. It shot a good Rooster Tail but it still maintained its "Bite." The Trim seemed not to affect the speed because of the Float effect.

I did not get to fish much because of my Daughter and Wife catching a lot of Sand Bass.

We started in running about 4 Miles and the Motor died. It seemed to be starving for fuel and after a few Bulb pumps it was off and running again. After I got in I found that the fitting on my Fuel Tank was not good and tight. The Motor sucked a little air.

We are heading to the same spot tomorrow and eventually I may have to get a bigger Fuel tank. I have a 3 gallon tank and the Tank was really low when we got in from this run.

I am curious about this Float effect, I really expected this Motor to Butte up against the Trim but it did not.

Now there's a sales tactic, "let's talk our customers out of spending MORE money with us and sell them cheaper motors"

When i bought my 23 GDSD and put it on my first boat, i had the same problems.

1. Get you a eye bolt, flat washer and wing off of a toggle boat. drill hole big enough for toggle wing and Install eye bolt in top of bench seat. Works great, no need to fasten to floor.

2. because of bench seat location i would often drive with my left knee on bench seat, more comfortable than standing sideways/ at an angle.

Kinda got tired of this so i got a new hull without the rear bench seat.
if you are hany you could always remove reat bench seat and add some reinforcements to hull.

Went out today and got to take the Surface Drive where it was designed to go. A Hunting Buddy wanted to Catfish Richland Chambers Lake near Corsicana TX. He said he knew a place where People had been tearing up the Catfish but it was hard to get a Boat through to the main lake. He told me there was a 100 yd section that was really shallow and they were pushing their Boats through.

We got there and had a nice concrete ramp. We launched the Boat and he told me where to go. After about 5 minutes I stopped and asked him where the bad part was and he told me "You just went through it at about 20 mph."

We fished and caught about 15. Everyone was telling us about catching Hundreds the prior week, and how they were really slow today. Just my Luck. I got stopped on the Lake several times and asked about the Motor. Evidently Mudmotors here are rare. My Buddy constantly was telling me be careful this is really shallow. I whipped off the lake and went through three foot high weeds that had been flooded and went into another Creek. That ended all the Caution. I was very satisfied to see that in spite of having a Rock Guard, my Boat went right through with out collecting weeds. These were dry and dead but they slid right off. Not sure how deep the water was but it was way less than a foot and I made a point of getting on and off plane. My Buddy is 6' 6" and weighs 325 and was sitting in the Front. I weigh 245 plus all our gear in a 15' boat.

We loaded the Boat and two more people made a point to come and look at the Motor.

Right now I am pretty satisfied with my Motor. Only concern right now is that the Pressure lube seems to spend a lot of time under water.

Since this Motor is so good in the Weeds I am very soon going to head for a spot on Lake Limestone where we have been catching huge Sand Bass and Crappie. Only problem is that these were caught out of a Kayak. My Long Tail collected too many weeds to get me in there.

Anybody know if the Pressure Lube is designed to be submerged?

If you do ever notice that you have a Lil moisture in it you can just unscew it and clean it out, screw it back on and pump grease into the shafts til it fills back up

Just sold another Motor for Coco today. Took my Buddy fishing today and he said he had to have a motor like that when Duck season starts. Now I would not mind shooting them, but who in their right mind gets up at the crack of dawn to kill some stinking, mud tasting, Ducks anyway.

I recently bought the 23 GDSD. Boat is a 1754 Tracker Mod V. I ran all over lake beouf this weekend and was satisfied with how it performs in the thick grass and weeds. This set up aint breakin any speed records but overall I'm really happy with it. I was looking for something to make mid to long runs in open water, lakes, rivers, bayous, etc with decent speed and also have the capability of being able to get to spots that are out of reach for a regular outboard. I have not had the chance to get into any mud yet but will post a review when I do.

I wanted to be able to hunt 3 ppl. I've never owned a boat where that was a possibility. I didn't go w/ the rock gaurd and I'm sure I'll regret that @ some point in the future.
