Post 1854 Uncle J Bateau - STAGE 2 36hp ProDrive
MM Brand: ProDrive
Horsepower: 36
Boat Brand: Uncle J
Boat Size: 18x54
Boat Layout: Wide Open

Additional Boat Specs:
-Flat Pipe Front
-1/8th Sides
-3/16” Bottom and Transom
-Tall (20”) transom
-22” Sides
-4” Cat Walks with 1" square tube outer gunnel rails
-1/8" Full Welded Floor
-Battery Tray Back Rear
-TM Bracket
-LED Shark Eye Lights
-Removable Grab Bar in Catwalk
-Drink Holder in Catwalk
-Two Tripod Seat Bases
-Cajun Camo Custom Paint - Max 4 Pattern
-5’ Extended Front Deck, 40” Dry Storage, 20” Stow Under Deck Extension
-Boat rigged and wired up by me

STOCK Speeds:
I've only taken the boat out a few times since I got it and never ran it by myself yet, so here are a couple speeds I've observed so far. All speeds taken with iPhone Navionics GPS. I will update as I get more time on the rig...

- 2 People, 6 gallons of gas, light load: 26.5-27 mph steady, mostly deep water. Boat bumped over 27 in shallow, but never did get to 28.
- 4 Adults and 1 nine year old, guns, shell buckets, no decoys: 21.5-23.5 depending on water depth (I was surprised it even got on step with this load)
- 3 Adults and 1 young teenager, full hunting load (guns, decoys, etc.): 23-24.5 mph in mostly shallow water (8"-10" depth)

**STAGE 1 SPEEDS:
So after running this boat for a while stock, I decided it was time to upgrade a bit to push this barge of a boat I have. I brought the boat to Jamie B. and he put his "Stage 1" voodoo on it, and I am more than impressed with the results. Keep in mind I've only run this boat with these new mods for about 10 minutes, so I'm sure there's a bit more to be desired. Speeds were taken with Navionics GPS app on my iPhone.

-Light Load: Me (185 lbs), 6 gallons of gas, and a prop that's worn a bit - 32.0-32.7 MPH
It bumped 33.1-33.5 MPH a couple times also, but those were not constant.

-Me, wife, 2 kids, 50qt K2 full of ice and drinks, 9 gal of gas, 3 bags charcoal, plus all the chairs, etc. running steady 28-29 MPH. It was running a tad faster with that load than it did empty stock. I like it :D

This boat is solid. I wanted a simple, open hull with no permanent boxes or anything to take up floor space, so that's what I had built. This boat is a night/day difference compared to the 1652 Alweld boat I was previously running with my PD. I'm really impressed with how this boat handles a load compared to my previous hull, and it also jumps on step a bit faster despite being a larger, heavier boat.

All BS aside, when it came down to it Jason was a great guy to do business with - despite what others may say from time to time on this site. I told him what I wanted, and about 3-1/2 weeks later it was hooked to my truck - just in time for hunting season. I'm very satisfied with the outcome of the entire process and product.

Pictures:

Here's a few Jason sent me during the build...

It's a square chine boat, so it'll slide forever if you let it. However, it doesn't take very long to figure it out and make it turn like you want.

he was telling me something about crimping the 3/16 some how and making a form of taper. Mine will be use in a deep water with stumps and trees mostly and needs to turn.

A taper chine would help, and some people have welded a strip of tubing down the middle of the hull to help with turning.

No, you can't tell but it's open where the floor stops from under the front deck to the back. There's about a 3/16" gap under the cross braces.

Skiffs are narrow and the entire front of the boat comes to a point, here's a good example... viewtopic.php?f=5&t=31495
