STOCK Speeds:
I've only taken the boat out a few times since I got it and never ran it by myself yet, so here are a couple speeds I've observed so far. All speeds taken with iPhone Navionics GPS. I will update as I get more time on the rig...

- 2 People, 6 gallons of gas, light load: 26.5-27 mph steady, mostly deep water. Boat bumped over 27 in shallow, but never did get to 28.
- 4 Adults and 1 nine year old, guns, shell buckets, no decoys: 21.5-23.5 depending on water depth (I was surprised it even got on step with this load)
- 3 Adults and 1 young teenager, full hunting load (guns, decoys, etc.): 23-24.5 mph in mostly shallow water (8"-10" depth)

**STAGE 1 SPEEDS:
So after running this boat for a while stock, I decided it was time to upgrade a bit to push this barge of a boat I have. I brought the boat to Jamie B. and he put his "Stage 1" voodoo on it, and I am more than impressed with the results. Keep in mind I've only run this boat with these new mods for about 10 minutes, so I'm sure there's a bit more to be desired. Speeds were taken with Navionics GPS app on my iPhone.

-Light Load: Me (185 lbs), 6 gallons of gas, and a prop that's worn a bit - 32.0-32.7 MPH
It bumped 33.1-33.5 MPH a couple times also, but those were not constant.

-Me, wife, 2 kids, 50qt K2 full of ice and drinks, 9 gal of gas, 3 bags charcoal, plus all the chairs, etc. running steady 28-29 MPH. It was running a tad faster with that load than it did empty stock. I like it :D

This boat is solid. I wanted a simple, open hull with no permanent boxes or anything to take up floor space, so that's what I had built. This boat is a night/day difference compared to the 1652 Alweld boat I was previously running with my PD. I'm really impressed with how this boat handles a load compared to my previous hull, and it also jumps on step a bit faster despite being a larger, heavier boat.

All BS aside, when it came down to it Jason was a great guy to do business with - despite what others may say from time to time on this site. I told him what I wanted, and about 3-1/2 weeks later it was hooked to my truck - just in time for hunting season. I'm very satisfied with the outcome of the entire process and product.

Pictures:

Here's a few Jason sent me during the build...

Post subject:  Re: 1854 Uncle J Bateau - 36hp ProDrive

It's a square chine boat, so it'll slide forever if you let it. However, it doesn't take very long to figure it out and make it turn like you want.

Post subject:  Re: 1854 Uncle J Bateau - 36hp ProDrive

he was telling me something about crimping the 3/16 some how and making a form of taper. Mine will be use in a deep water with stumps and trees mostly and needs to turn.

Wow,wow,wow, that is perfect.

What makes it a "bateau"?

Everything that makes it not a skiff

The rake then?

We don't have skiffs up north. I hear they are the devil.
