I have a alumacraft 1436, boat has been decked and is used mainly to play in the river with my wife and daughter. I previously purchased a 13hp Scavenger long tail, I wasn't happy with the power (top speed about 8-9 mph) looking for information from users who have this boat and a Dixie mm. Newby here so forgive me if this is the wrong section. Thanks in advance for the help.

Stay away from Dixie... Go with copperhead they make a new 14hp kohler that I think would be perfect for that boat.

Call Dixie and ask them for yourself. Their 10 hp would work well.

I have heard alot of the don't buy Dixie post, I live in Macon where they are built, they are in my price range, I am not look for something to jump logs or play in deep mud. Just want a short shaft mm that will give me decent speeds and be able to travel in water that has alot of vegetation. I have talked to Dixie but I would rather have some imput from someone who has been using this setup.

I've got the 23 with power trim on a 1536 it does fine, runs 22 with two ppl. That being said boat is ass heavy, but the 23 is a beast, when u get stuck in the thick, trim it down and hold on.

check out the reviews on dixie....maybe living in the town where dixie is built might give you an advantage of good customer service. maybe not.

i have the same exact hull with a 6.5 dixie. by myself 225lbs i get 16mph. throw another 200 lbs i get around 12. if i were you i would go with the 10hp at the least. that boat would do best with a 18 imo.

Winn pull your belt cover off and see what top pulley Ben put on there. Mine is a 16h100. It seems Ben would just throw whatever he had laying around on these motors. Some people have the 14 and some have the 12. You might just need the larger pulley and you will be running like it should be.

Has anyone gotten a motor from Mike yet? Is it really just oh so much better than the old junk that ben put out? Customer service any better?

I had a Dixie 10 hp last fall I bought new from Ben to put on my 14x36 jon. The best speeds I ever got were around 13-13.5 mph regardless of how I leveled the load or trimmed the motor. Talked to Ben several times about it, and in the end he basically said that was probably about as good as I could expect from it given the load in the boat.

Now, I only weigh about 210 and all I had in the back was a small lawn mower battery so it's not like it was overloaded. I even bumped up the governor about 500 rpm to around 4300 like Ben said and that only got me to that 13.5 mph number. I had a 6.5 Copperhead before that and was getting better speeds out of that thing, consistently over 14 mph. Only reason I sold it and went to the 10 hp Dixie is that the weight was only another 12-15 lbs heavier and I thought I'd get at least another 3-4 mph out of it. Sure didn't pan out like I hoped.

It also had that 2 bolt system holding the motor onto the frame, and those bolts would continuously back themselves out every time you turned the thing. I even tried Lock Tite on them with no success. It got to where I had to carry a socket wrench with me every time out just to tighten up those bolts after running a while. I actually lost the bottom bolt on two seperate occasions while out hunting and decided I'd had enough of that crappy design and sold it and went back to the 6.5 hp Copperhead. It's a good quality motor and I don't have to worry about parts dropping off of it when I'm out hunting.

I can't say how the new owner is doing things or if he's redesigned those motors, but because of my bad experience with them I doubt I'll ever consider another Dixie in the future. There's a reason they are so cheap, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for.
