Post subject:  war eagle mud motor combo

ive got a 15/48 w/e. i know that boat is not ideal for a mud motor, but i would only be running the motor during duck season, ive got an outboard that will b on it during the rest of the year, for fishing and what not. anyway, ive had my eye on the 25 GTR, would really like to get some reviews and first had accounts of the performance and reliability of this motor. i know my boat isnt a boat designed for them, but it will only b for duck season, and used only on a river for a few miles, then into the timber. eventually i will b purchasing a mud boat. so any help or opinions would be great :)

use the search feature or google search mmt + 25gtr.......
the 25 hp gtr is only like 40 pounds lighter than the 35 if that. How tall are your sides and transom? What angle is your transom? I ask that because you may need to modify your transom for the gtr to work worth a crap. also on such a short boat, you may need to move as much weight to the front or even add weight to the front to keep the nose down so you can get on plane......mud motors are not like outboards, they require certain transom height and angle to perform at all.

My transom is 18 inches, I have 22 inch gunwalls. As far as angle of the transom, I don't know. I am in the process of making a fuel cell to go under the front deck, as well as a battery box.

There has been a few guys with the 1542 war eagle put the 25 gtr on them. With that being said they had to build up the transom to fit the tall transom motor. The weight difference between the the 25 and 35 is only about 25 pounds, with that being said there has been a few guys on here run 35 on 1548

tall sides are good, you are going to have to build up transom like previously stated or get a hunt deck added....it will cost a little more but the extra length will help lay the boat flatter.....

the longer the boat the bigger the sweet spot is for carrying a load.

my war eagle has the duck bill combo on the front, so idk if that will help any. but i did talk to a dealer, and they said the 25 would probly b a better fit, but i wanted a few outsid sources, before i purchased one. from what i have been told, i need at least another inch on the transom, in order to get the tall transom motor. is this true? and do yall think a 35 would be better? like i said, in the future i will b purchasing a mud boat. But that will b a year or 2 from now. what do you mean by "hunt deck"

I'd do the 25, 35 on that boat probaly flood. mine's a 16 and it sits real low in the water.

if you are not hp restricted and are getting a mud boat in the future get the 35.....more hp and torque....the 35 is just a little heavier than the 25.....the only difference in the two are the motor and prop, everything else is the same.

We do have restrictions, but they are set at 35 for the mud motors. My boat has the hunt deck with duck bill. Looms like that one but its a 1548. I think I'm gona go ahead with the 25. It will b plenty for me

Maybe I'm confused on what a hunt deck is. Is it not just a low front deck?

a duckbill is a tube and plate bow extender if you will call it, has hand rails up front built in, strengthns the boat up. most have lights underneath as well google it. and i use the gator tail trailer mount no cracks in transom so far and i jump it, hit numerous logs and what not no problem. now the bottom of my rig is a different story. lol

Duck bill is a war eagle add on. Adds about a foot to the front go the boat. Has handles and lights on it. Checkit out on the war eagle website.

I bought the 25 GTR last year and have it on a 15 42 war eagle. I love the setup. I would have bought the 35 but when i ordered was before AR changed to 36 on mud motors hp. I plan to upgrade to a true mud hull but only had the cash to buy motor. If you plan to hunt more than 2 on a common bases I would buy the 35. I run 23 24 with me and buddy and hunting gear. It will plan out with 3 but never GPS. Runs 26 27 in deep water with me. Bumped 28 in shallow. I would also go ahead and get the tail transom and build yours up. Have a short motor and transom have to watch slowing down fast or water is coming over. War eagles are not designed for mud motors. Boats play a huge part in performance. Listen to these guys advice they want steer you wrong. I talked to several of the guys on here. I understand if you have to use your current boat. May be far drive but welcome to test run. I live in greenwood ms. Get the reverse plate is a must.

A test drive would b absolutely ideal! I live in little rock arkansas. My boat is a short transom. I planed on building it up and getting a tall motor. I know there is only a slight difference in weight. But if you are getting that kind of speed with a 542, I wonder if a 548 would do just as well. And 23 to 27 mph is plenty fast enough for me. Would love to c a few photos of your rig

This is the review I did on my setup. My grandparents live in MAumelle it's about a 4 -4 1/2 hour drive from little rock. I would think you would get better speeds being wider. Guys with 16 46 and 48 boats where getting 27 plus with 2 guys.

now duckspro's is a flat correct, because thorxray yours is a 8 degree semi v like mine. with just me an a cooler six gallons, gun box(full of shit) my boat runs 30-31 in shallow about 28 deep add a guy 27-28 shallownd a lil less deep. thing is the boat cuts great and runs a big river great don't get beat up near as bad. But the truth is these hulls aren't built like a dedicated mud hull. it doesnt run as shallow the v can suck crossing logs. Just depends on what you do with it really.

An experienced or honest dealer would not even sell you a gtr/prodrive/mb sport hd for your war eagle, to much weight.
Go with a mb mini 23 long or short to match your transom, 100 pounds less.

I would get a mb 23 if I could get a Louisiana special. I had a smaller mud buddy before, and I hated not having power trim
