Post subject:  Instagator 9" refuge prop

Got my prop from Jay and got some tiller time on it in some various conditions/loads.

As for dealing with Jay and the workmanship of the prop, it's was great.

Boat: 1646 gtb, 25gtr 32" out drive. Normal 2 man speeds with typical load 24-25, one man same load 25-26.

My first outing in the boat was two men(225/185) with 9 gals fuel, cooler(beer/ice) winch and auxiliary battery. We hit 22.6 in some 10-14" flats with minimal wind. Deeper water was slower but the boat was up in the water, the wind was defiantly a factor. Rpm's were in the 3900 range my normal prop Rpm's would have been around 3780-3820.

The next run was teal opener morning. We ran 3 guys (285,225,185) 9 gals fuel, 3 dozen decoys, gun box, guns and some other hunting related items.(buckets marsh seats,ect..) We hit 18.1 in the wind protected shallower water. The run in the morning we moved a very good pace even in the deeper more open water. The way in we saw good spends in protected areas but in the open water it chugged along. Wind was a factor. Rpm's were same as prior except for in deeper water where we were sitting lower.

The next day was an exact duplicate of the above similar speeds and load.

In all I'm happy with the prop, it got me where I needed to go. The two man speeds were very comparable to my normal runs. I'd say 1-2 mph loss. Getting on step was a little slower but nothing very noticeable.

This is why I can't keep them on the shelf. These 9" props are bad to da bone!!!

No doubt Rob, I was very impressed.

When we got to the launch Saturday after the hunt the GW was waiting going through everyones stuff. He gets to me and goes through the motions and gets to the back of the boat and says "well I'm gonna have to ask you a some questions about your motor setup?" Come to find out he said they just got a GTR work boat, and was asking how well my boat had treated me.

I did see there was another 25gtr in line behind me launching at Star lake.

Friend & customer of mine just sent me a text. He's got a new 1648 GT Extreme with 25 GTR. With 9" prop, he out ran a 25 Yamaha with same load this morning. He's happier than a puppy with 2 peters, lol

This prop only for 25? Why does it look like a Powertech cut down? Or is that what it is?

Only for the small blocks to be refuge legal (25hp & 9" prop). Most of them are cut down 12" Powertechs that are pitched up & heavy cup added. A ton of R&D went into em, but they're dialed in pretty darn good now.

I lost 3 mph in 2 hrs and 1" off my prop. And still haven't got another prop. It's about 10 7/8 now. Still running 26-27. But that's a 35.

Didn't mean to jack the thread!!!

T Perkins I would really like to come see your set up and discuss the possibilities. I am about to buy my first mud motor and boat and your results of running a surface drive I could definitely live with. Jay that does the cutdown props is on this board? Team Camo.....do you sell them?? I also will be running at the Refuge.

What are they accomplishing by setting a 9" prop limitation? You just pitch it and cup it and I'm pretty sure achieve some decent speeds?

Take Em1, I'll send ya a PM

MarshJB, I dont know. About the same as limiting MM to 25 or less. Not sure if 9'' is standard for small outboards or maybe it was to keep people from re-decaling larger motors. I really dont know.

But the prop does what I need it to, It complies with the laws within the refuge and I didnt loose to much performance dropping down to 9".
