Boat Brand: My own personnel build
Boat Size: 17'10 x 48" square chine with double taper transom
Boat Layout: open/ drive seat box and built in 15 gal fuel tank up front as step to front deck

Old Hull - all 1/8" 1 piece hull, with 1/8 tread plate false floor, 5' front deck, open floor plan.

New Hull - 3/16 bottom, 1/8" sides, .100 false floor and front deck, drivers console, 15 gal built in tank up front and open floor plan.

Speed test with Old Hull 19'10" x 50":

Deep Water - 25 mph

The final speed test was performed in a very windy day. No speed change from running with or against the wind. My boat began to porpoise when I tried to trim up. I had very little fuel in my front tank which helps this and I may still need to shift my battery up front. But at 34.2 MPH, my stock prop is completely buried, no roost at all. And I mean at all, no spray. If I tried to trim up, it would start to bounce. I plan on doing some more runs this week moving weight around to trim up and let it eat some more. The motor is still pulling really strong eben with it completely buried. My tach was acting up so I don't have the rpm's, but I have it working now. Will post the new speeds and rpms this week. I see no reason why it won't do 35 mph. So basically going from a bone stock 36 PD to a stage 2 gave me roughly 10 MPH increase and a hell of lot more load carring capacity.

When you painted it, the GPS had a harder time seeing you so it thought you were running faster, you gotta strip it back down to get a real accurate comparison!

Good running, the rig turned out very nice.

Well my test run with all the fuel didn't change shit. Still bouncing, and thats with 15 gal of fuel up front and wedges under the hull in the back.

After talking to a few guys, it looks like I'm gonna have to box the transom off and leave about 1" - 1.5" of tab out the back all the way across as a trim tab. The hull didn't bounce a lick before a few mods. I guess the extra top end speen has pushed me over the stability level of the hull with this transom taper. But opening morn is Sat so that shit will have to wait. Plus durning hunting season, my shit is loaded to the gills so I'll have enough weight in it to move around to help out. But 34 with prop buried aint bad..................... for now.

Try putting a 6" weld on both side of boat on the bottom?

Maybe it's the rake.....

Dfou Just out of curiosity, what about the rake would effect the porpoising? would it be because the rake is too long or short?

Actually found the problem, boat doesn't like the transom angle.

Used a 2' level to insure it was the same as the bottom of hull so it would weld straight. removed the wedges from the bottom also. Cleaned it up, painted it. Totally different boat now. I did have to grind off the gator glide to make the mod, but it didn't effect shit this pass weekend. And I also though the 1" tab across would get hung up also with all the grass and lillies on our lease. Nope. Right now the tab is completely straight out, didn't bend it one way or the other.

One thing I did notice this weekend was that when my boat was completely empty and I had less than 1/4 tank, it would just start to bounce. Very little. I just need to tweek the tab a little to get it to run right with low fuel and no load. Seems to get up a little quicker also.

Why you move the drain hole?

And you did all that to stop it from bouncing at 34 mph while the boat was empty?
