OB Brand: Johnson

Horsepower: 25

Boat Brand: CSM Custom

Boat Size: 1242

Boat Layout: Open with 18" deck

Speeds | Shallow Water: n/a

Speeds | Deep Water: 32.8

Total Boat Load With Gear Etc: 1 man 200, another 250 with 2 yeti coolers, battery and 2 gal gas

Conditions Tested In: Calm

Comments: I built this boat to be light and to get in hp restricted wma's. All .090 with .125 transom and deck with 3-1x2 stringers and one cross brace. It's a little small for a 25hp but runs great once you get on plane. One man is way too much with the ob on it but I got some balls and planed out in it.

Made a few short runs with it by myself and was a little scary. On my last run the motor hit a stump and came OFF the boat. Well thank goodness I had a battery in it because that's all that held it to the boat. I pulled up by the cables and hit the kill button. Man handled it in the boat and paddled to the trailer! Drained the water out of the carb and fired right back up!

To everyone that is in a hurry to run your motor take time and bolt your motor down!!!!!! Don't be a dumb azz like me!!

I'm going to post reviews on this thread with a 12 hp lt, a 10 hp Dixie and a 12 hp Copperhead on this boat.

North LA Hunter do you think if you had built it out of all .125 it would add a little weight to the boat to help it not be so squearly to plane out with one man? Or do you think it's cause it's so short? This would be a fun little boat to have either way.

Surface drive on that boat will not work.

You might should have turned the square tubing on it's edge for better support for bottom!Nice little boat ;)

Cool little boat.... How much do you figure the hull weighs?
I'm thinking about building something like this sometime in the future to replace my fiberglass skiff.

With the 18" sides I think that thing would handle a 23 copperhead okay. And I'd be willing to bet it would have no problem planing out a 2 man hunt load with a 14hp or better. My skiff is a little less than 36" wide amidships and about 30" at the transom and it will plane out 2 people and a reasonable hunt load with a 14 copperhead.

You'd be a cadilacin' sumbitch with the 18 cangaurd Copperhead on that rig.
The difference in vibration from the 14 to 18 is a lot.

I think there is a big misconception with performance and transom angle.

It doesn't mean shit while running on step with the motor trimmed mid way, all 4* more angle does is give you a deeper trim down.
I think a little longer boat would run better, but that thing will be bad in the timber for throwing around!

Update...

Pulled the boat out of the weeds this evening and threw the ole. 12 hp longtail on it.

Ran 16 or so with 2 ppl and cooler.

Ran 17 or so with 1 person and cooler.

Boat handled well and was pretty steady when sitting still. When running I didn't feel comfortable making any kind of turns but I just have to get use to it.

Going to jump on trying to finish my little surface drive for this season and run it on this boat. But I'm going to add a drivers seat. I'm guessing I will get around 20 with the sd.

Thats sweet. My buddy has a a 1236 alumacraft flatbottum with 10hp copperhead. Planned no problem with two lighter folks. Gps read 18 mph. boat road pretty dern good in my opinion.

That thing ran really nice with that longtail, dude. If you need help with that sd, lemme know. It's going to love that little thing.

I'm interested in results of the small sd on there. I have a 12.5 x 42 inch bottom fiberglass/wood boat that weighs about 160lbs. I put a 25 Yamaha on it with me and son....we were doing 31 but I really want to put a small sd on there. So I'm interested in your results.

Phowler ran their 1236 Prowler with a 12 Copperhead and planed 2 men at over 20 mph.

I ran a 12hp lct copperhead on a 1436. Ran 23 consistent 2 guys 3 gal fuel tank cooler and fishing gear. Ive got an 18hp now on the same boat and with same load I'm getting 25. cant figure out videos or I'd post some.

Any up date. This is very similar to a boat im fixing to start on. I have a 12x42 weldbuilt now and it does great but it's not made to hold up to a surface drive atleast not me and a surface drive. Is .090 enough for the bottom I've been debating doing the bottom and back of transom out of .125 just due to the fact I've ripped out multiple holes in multiple boats where the transom meets the bottom from logs and what not. And plan to use .080-.090 for everything else

Where I run this boat I don't have to worry about hitting stumps so I put .090 in the bottom. If you plan to hit stumps I would put 1/8 but if not .100 would be good.

I had a 1436 flat with a 15hp rude on it and you needed a periscope to see over the bow coming out of the hole. Ran decent (26mph) until the wind got under the bow then flipped you around.
