Post subject:  2014 Back Water Inc. SWOMP 35 !!!!!WITH VIDEO!!!!!

Well I sold my 23 SWOMP last weekend. Monday I called Jake at Back Water and placed my order and made my payment. I got a 35 SS and a SWOMP LITE Glider kit. I'll do a separate review of the SWOMP LITE at a later date. The shipment went out the very next afternoon (Tuesday) via Fed-Ex. Jake texted me my tracking number and the crate made it from MN to TN by Thursday. I thought 2 days was super quick! The motor was bolted and strapped down to a very stout crate and the crate was covered in heavy duty cardboard with their logo all over it. I had it delivered to my local hardware store since they had a forklift to help with the unloading and loading of the crate. Once the crate was on the trailer, it was was headed to the house!

I spent that evening mounting the motor to my 1648 War Eagle. Everything went super smooth thanks to the use of my engine hoist. Once the transom clamps were tightened down, I reinstalled the thru-transom bolts that I had used with my 23 SWOMP. We hooked the fuel line and battery up, filled the engine with oil, and fired it up. This 35 is just as smooth as can be. No big surprise though because my last SWOMP was just as smooth. No excessive vibration and ZERO rattle from the frame. Once I throttled up, I could tell this 35 is in an entirely different league than my old 23. You could feel the power even though the boat wasn't even in the water. I wanted to but the boat in the water that night but sadly I had to wait until today (Saturday).

This morning I launched the boat and took off up river and was absolutely blown away by the torque and overall power this 35 SWOMP has. It felt like twice the power of my old 23. I honestly couldn't quit grinning while running the motor. It was smooth as glass and it wasn't much different than my 23 as far as ease of handling. I know you always hear how longtails are difficult to drive and will wear you out, especially the big blocks. Well whoever said that never drove a Back Water. I finally got off of the river and found a flooded field. That's when I was able to get some speed numbers. Boat had gas tank, battery, trolling motor, and a 20qt Yeti. Keep in mind I'm a big guy (315). I was in shallow water with zero current. Boat was holding steady between 24.0 and 24.2 mph. I have no doubt this thing would run over 25 if a smaller guy would drive it.

If you can't tell already, I'll say the obvious. I love this motor. I couldn't be happier with my decision to move up from the 23 to the 35. The best advice I can give anyone looking to purchase a new longtail is to do yourself a favor a get a Back Water. Moreover, if you're boat is big enough get the 35! You will not regret it one bit.

Thanks for an actual review in the reviews section.

I've been thinking about putting one on a 1644, and getting rid of the 25. So I take it your suggestion would be yes? lol

Great speeds Frank. Does your boat squat with the bigger motor? Enjoy the Beastly 35.

Awesome speeds. I'm thinking about a 35 for my rogue with the 71" shaft.

The 71" LS is set up to run out of the box with a 20" transom.

Definitely nothing special. This was the first time is ever run the motor. I was mostly worried about dialing in my cavitation plate. Enjoy!

I haven't had it in the water yet. I've assembled it and mounted it on the boat. Running it on the trailer, I can tell you it's extremely smooth!

Frank that 23 made my boat dance across that mud last weekend . Once I figured out where she wanted to catch and push at , it was good times. . Didn't get stuck. , had an airboat hovering wanting to push me while I fixed the throttle. , 5 min delay , on straight mud and she walked out on step . Glad to see how that 35 pushes that boat of yours . One should work good on my war eagle .

Good deal, Frank! The longtail is alive and well! You just convinced me to step up to the 35 from my 27 LT. I suppose after break-in, you may gain another 1-2 mph by tweaking the throttle? But hell, 24 is light speed to me. Keep on mudding!

I'm sure I'll have some increase after everything is broken in and properly set. Plus like I said, as big as I am, I'm about like having 2 people in the boat! Lol. I wanna let one of my smaller buddies drive it and get some speed numbers.

Ran it this past weekend. With me, trolling motor, Yeti, misc gear, and a 265lb passenger, ran constant between 22 and 22.5 mph.
