I'm looking at getting this rig. Owner states that he can get anywhere a surface drive could. Mainly hunting rivers/marsh and small shallow lakes. Adding a jack plate and shallow drive prop should get me where I need to go. Looking for some opinions/thoughts. Thanks guys!! And happy Veterans Day!! Never Forget!!!!!! |

No opinions on this one guys? He's asking 5500. Seem like a good rig? Anybody have experience running a similar rig in shallow water? I'm supposed to go see it tomorrow and hoping to get some opinions on it before making offer. Thanks in advance. |

Looks like a fine boat but dont expect it to go where a mud motor will go. I your looking for an outboard rig, do it.. If your looking for a shallow water rig...dont. Drive it before you buy so you can make sure the pods dont have a negative effect. |

A jack plate and shallow water prop won't do it? |

No, not if the shallow water pick up is not in the water. If you want a shallow water rig then save your money and get a mud motor. |

Fact of the matter is that it still requires several inches of uninterrupted water. Shallow water prop and jack plate won't help if you can't get good clean water to the intakes reliably. It's one thing to have enough water to turn the prop and make it go, but how long will that motor last if you're constantly sucking mud through your impeller? Just remember that the top of the cav plate needs to be in water for that motor to be happy. If that's alright with you, then good deal. |

Don't get me wrong I think surface drives get the job done but hey are so Frickin expensive and heavy. If I could get a motor with forward and reverse and get me in and out 3-6" water for under 2 grand I say that's worth it. Don't these low water pickup cones prevent mud from getting in the motor? |

If theres no tunnel it aint going to run that shallow. It will run 8-10 inches of water but that's as long as its over 4-5 inches of mud that the skeg is cutting through if its sand id say you'd need over a foot. But that's still a nice boat. |

another thing you might want to think about is If he claimed it will get it anywhere a surface drive will, he ran it like a surface drive and that would make me skeptical. theres no telling what kind of crap that outboard has been through. |

Right in line with this subject, I just misbehaved with an outboard today and it went... not so well. |

I checked the boat out and it was beat up. Yes the skeg has a plate over it that was riveted on. So there's no doubt he was in some skinny stuff. In southeastern wisconsin were not running mud like down south mostly pockets off of main river channels. I ran a 30 mariner on my boat for a couple of seasons and got sick of push pullin into decent spots. Mostly weeds and muck not a whole lot of sand in the pockets. I have a 35hp swomp longtail and it pushes my 1648 Lowe alright but wish I could move along a little quicker. I'm sure I'll end up with a surface drive and be happy with it but wish I could throw on a higher hp outboard and get up river faster! Mudmotor's are expensive and heavy enough!! And throw another grand or 2 to modify them to higher hp sucks. I love duck hunting but can't afford a 20,000 dollar rig. Only if there was a simple solution to cooling an outboard in shitty water. |
