Opinions needed about my new boat
Motor: gator tail Boat: 1848 WC customs square chine w/ gator glide Motor: 35 hp with PD EFI head work and Mac exhaust Layout: all open with hatch and gun box up front with storage hatch in back with hunt deck and 6" catwalks
Shallow water: - Deep water: 28 mph Load: me 175 wife 125 Lab 80 and yeti size 50 cooler Conditions: backwater in a bean field around 5 foot deep, 65 degrees with little to no chop on water
I tried different trim angles and the best I could get out of it was 28 at anywhere from 3900-4000 rpms. I was told this boat would run 31-32 with light load. I am open to all opinions fellas. I think this rig should be turning more rpms and faster speed for sure.

Light load usually means 1 person, completely empty boat. I think your speeds are about right but RPMs are a little low.

Re: Opinions needed about my new boat
Speeds are good, rpm a tad low as stated above.

Re: Opinions needed about my new boat
There are a lot of things that effect speed.
One of the big keys is weight distribution.
It makes a lot of difference on one of these boats.
I have picked up speed by moving an ice chest just a few inches... or having someone sit further back or more forward depending on the boat.
Weight distribution is both side to side and front to back. Having a boat lean to one side will slow you way down.
With each new combo, you have to experiment a lot to see what works best and a run or two (and not trying different things) is not a very good indication of what you can really do.
Trim can impact a great deal as well.
You really aren't that far off from what you expected if you really think about it. I know there are some real idiots on here that get hung up on a mph or two, but at the end of the day it really isn't that much and can be effected by a lot of things.
Also, bear in mind not everyone tells the truth on speeds or and some claim the top speed as the one blip the hit on the gps-not what they usually run. I have run with folks that supposedly had way faster boats, and they were not running off from me at all.
There are many threads about getting the most out of your package, you have to just search around and read up some to see things you can try.
Other option is to hook up with someone that has some experience and get them to go out with you and try some things.
One time I picked up 1.5 mph by simple having someone on the middle bench face back instead of forward......
Also, not sure how shallow 5 ft is, and I have seen the speed jump up by several mph when you hit real shallow water. I would almost call 5ft deep water on one of these boats...
Not sure of the physics of why that is on these boats, but can tell you that it works that way for some reason.
Good luck and enjoy the new boat.

Opinions needed about my new boat
Prop maybe looks a little worn. But not too bad. What does it measure? If it was really bad, I would think your rpms would be much higher.
You may want to try an 11P 3 blade.

Re: Opinions needed about my new boat
If he can't turn a 2 blade then he most defently can not turn a 11p 3 blade. Try the 10 p 3 blade and check valve lash to start

Re: Opinions needed about my new boat
PD EFI, head work, and a mac? You without a doubt should be able to get more than 4K rpms out of that setup on that boat with that load. Unless you are having to bury the prop to achieve better speed, I probably wouldn't blame the prop. I would imagine that engine should be turning 4200-4300 on that rig at optimum trim. Nothing against Willett, but his boats aren't exactly known to be speed boats. Could be something with the hull if you can't find anything obvious with the engine/outdrive.

I think this is the same guy that I'm helping with a MAP sensor failure right now. If so, need to get the new sensor installed and see where its at.

And Mmayes is gonna be pissed that you are using his name. You got some nerve.

Re: Opinions needed about my new boat
Ha! I didn't know that BM was still around? I would have thought that you and Tyrome would be in LaGrange by now. Better call KP and get something tuned up for the creek this spring. Blake said his broke the sound barrier the other day
And yes Owen, it is the same guy. I appreciate your help with everything. I have to take a short business trip Monday-friday to SC but when I get back maybe I can get the new part on and head towards BM's way for another run.

Put a wet sounds stealth 10 under your cat walk and don't worry about a couple mph.

Re: Opinions needed about my new boat
Sensor or sensing line? MAP sensor failure should throw a code and only allow the engine to idle.
