GDSD EFI - side by side on same 1844 hull
Speaking of Re-Powered Go Devils - Interesting side by side run thursday.... 3 identical 1844 Go Devil hulls 1. My 7 year old 35 GDSD with seasoned prop 2. Brand new 35 GDSD carb model with new 3 blade 3. Brand new 35 GDSD EFI with new 3 blade The new carb model with new prop was about 1 mph faster than my 7 year old stock 35 GDSD - but the EFI was 4 mph faster downwind and 3.5 mph faster into the wind and 8" chop.... The EFI has considerably more "bottom end" power and quicker throttle response which is where you really need it tooling thru tight twisting bayous.... The EFI pulled away from me time and time again in the "maze" that we like to run and was very impressive.... Even has a deeper throaty exhaust tone too....

Re: GDSD EFI - side by side on same 1844 hull
We ran for a while after you left yesterday. In the twistys, the round chine boats had my number lol, I dry-docked mine once coming into a turn too hot, that EFI 1844 pulled me back into the water though on any kind of a straight run, my 1860 would pull away from both of them. Never checked the speed but I was probably 1-2mph faster than the EFI round chine boat, and.... Several mph faster than the carb boat. My boat handled the choppy water great also. We had a pretty long run into the wind and as long as it wasn't a cross wind trying to blow the bow of the boat around, the boat just got on top of the chop and rolled out.

Couldn't you just use a good coating of dielectric grease on all connectors to help eliminate the the salt water problem. A little preventive maintenance goes a long ways with these things.

Re: GDSD EFI - side by side on same 1844 hull
Mine gets a fresh water hose and a WD40 shower after every run, fresh or salt. The weatherpak connectors should be good to go but I plan on greasing them as well. Mine will be ran in 95% fresh water, a trip to the salt water is a rarity for me. Too many fish to be caught up in the river!!!

CRC Heavy-Duty Corrosion Inhibitor is your friend. It's like a spray wax in a can. The only thing that it will burn off of on these motors is the exhaust.
Just don't spray it on any part of the throttle linkage. That gets Boeshield T-9 on mine.

Got to see new EFI GDSD in action saturday in hard packed veggies....
Extra bottom end power helped it power thru better than my GDSD carb model....

Re: GDSD EFI - side by side on same 1844 hull
My boat wasn't light years faster on the long runs but would creep away from the pack. I get the best solo performance turning 4000-4050. Any more than that and it doesn't help speed, just throws a bigger roost. My EFI 1860 is faster on the stretch than a carb 1660 FWIW.
I got thru those hard packed lillies too without too much issue. Coming back across they had floated apart a bit and we just blew thru them.

That's unfortunate to hear, hopefully it gets fixed. That's a pretty big problem to be caused by something that can happen pretty easily. I would venture to guess there's gonna be quite a few folks not too happy about it.

Re: GDSD EFI - side by side on same 1844 hull
FYI, I've got over 20hrs on mine as of yesterday and have had the engine and battery off the boat to be flipped, ran thru a torrential downpour a couple times (enough to kick on the auto bilge) had it sprayed with bow wash jumping 2-3ft rollers trying to get back to the ramp when the wind picked up. I have had absolutely zero issues with battery connections, ECM issues, anything of the sort. The boat still runs flawlessly. I know 20hrs is a drop in the bucket in comparison to most but it's already seen some pretty harsh running conditions. Hope that maybe puts a small amount of ease in some folks' minds about the Briggs EFI system. I'm still impressed with it every time I run it. I pulled a 275lb guy on a big double tube (wider than the boat) and managed 22mph with someone else in the boat (law) and two big ice chests full to the top, a grill and the canopy up, also with two large batteries, and two full fuel tanks up front... The holeshot and tq difference is a real thing
