Observed the demo in Andalusia slough, didn't impress me to much. Looked like a lot of deep water boat riding.

Didn't have to I was in my own boat back in Islands sitting in shallow water observing, and fishing. I could of gone any where you guys were going, and probably further and faster with my 1648 Alumacraft with MB BD 4500.

What's your point DENNYEDWARDS? Just trying to piss on a sponsors thread to make yourself feel better? You didn't take a demo ride and yet you feel it's necessary to give us a useless opinion.

muddoctor, have you tried the Copperhead 23 on the new wide lite series from Phowler? I am particularly interested in both the 1844/1850 in .100 gauge, and if a 35 longtail would be also suitable for either of those models?

Nobody has a Phowler wide lite hull? I'm thinking "speed hull" for a 35 longtail!

I called Phowler last week and they said 390# for the 1844 and 450# for the 1850 hull. That is a good weight in .100 gauge. No reviews for this line of mud hulls?

Here are some speeds on a heavier Phowler hull with the 23 Copperhead.

Thanks, Johnny-O! I will email Paul. I saw those reports a while back and that little 23 is impressive. I think it would be even better on the "wide lite" .100 hull (1844/1848). My guess is a 35 LT would also move those real well too. I can understand that need for something "simple", meaning no reverse or neutral; I've done fine all these years with neither driving a longtail. I usually hunt alone or maybe two hunters and gear and lots of speed is not needed- now if I could plane two hunters and gear at 20-24 mph that would be heaven, three hunters at 20 mph I would be very happy. The light weight of the 23 Hp, the available mods if you wanted to go that route for the shortail, the recoil start option, the fact that it would be fine where there are HP restrictions (usually 25 PH max), the much lower price, all make that powerplant highly desirable, unless you are toting big loads and need max speed. :ugeek:

Muddoctor, I emailed you and no reply. Any reviews on the new Phowler wide lite jons? I am thinking of powering the 1844/1850 model with a 35 LT. Does this sound like a good combo? I really can not use a surface drive here- shallow water, hard bottom, little mud. The appeal of this line of hull is their lighter weight of course. No stumps or beaver dams to traverse either. Thank you!
