Has anyone actually put any considerable hours on one yet and have a review? I can get one for super cheap because my buddies family just picked up Boss drives at their dealership and I'm considering one now. Would be looking at the 37 or maybe the 4400. It's going to go on a 1854 whenever I give Rj some money..

I know there was already a thread on this but I didn't want to bring that cluster fuck of a thread up with the whole "it won't outrun a tuned up motor but it'll out mud one" crap and it had nothing useful in it. So this is try number 2!

You need to drive your buddy's for a while and make sure it's what you want.

Problem is he doesn't have one. They just picked them up at their dealership but he doesn't duck hunt and doesn't have a mud boat, that's why I was hoping there would be some people on here with them that could give some reviews

Why not persuade them to put a 44 on your boat and you will take out perspective buyers. At the end of the year they can sell it as a used motor and then put another one on your boat. And do the same thing in a year. It would be a good deal for them, I am thinking.

I did a ride with one of the guys from boss a few weekends ago. He had it on a gator trax I think it was a 17-50. The boat and motor ran well. He had 2 people in the boat and was running around 30. I was in my boat and I had to slow down a little for him to keep up. I let him borrow one of my custom props and he picked up 2 mph. The Boss motor performed well from what I seen. That's the only time I've seen one perform in person. I also learned that you can change the gear ratio on the boss motors. He was running a higher gear from what I was told. I think these guys are trying to put together a reliable motor. We shall see how they evolve over the next few years.

Just remember that the transmission is hydraulic and my dealer told me that there's a chance when it dies while in gear that the transmission will lock up. In order to get it back going you have to get to the prop and spin it to unlock it.

I know that the gearing is the bravo 1. Mercruiser gears. Don't believe that's it's hydraulic.

They use the Mercruiser cone clutch for FNR. Everything on that outdrive is a mercury design.

We test drove the 44 an the 37 not long ago with the owner of boss. We dogged the shit outta them all day trying to break something. They seemed to hold up to the abuse and what we put threw. The 37 an 44 ran about the same speed as each other with 3 guys in the boat. I'm more of a fan of the 44 than the 37. But like said above the 44 had differebt gear ratio than the 37 did. The 44 would damn near sink the boat when we Backed up in some thick grass didn't seem to stop it at all. The 37 wouldn't get down like the 44 was. We were told they are switching the gear ratio in the 37 to match the 44 if an when they do this I think they will have a good motor. Rodney an his guys are trying to make a strong motor an I think after they get one in the right hands to test it will be a good one. I think they have a lil bit to change but once they do more guys will buy them. After we damn near sank the boat an dogged the motors all day Rodney took us to lunch lol I would recommend if u do get one get the 44 it didn't lag like the 37 did on take off

I think there is some sort of EPA Clean Air Act regulation that basically mandates either the engine manufacturer or the end user manufacturer to comply with reduced emission requirements that are basically controlled by EFI and the O2 sensors on the exhaust.

So, to answer your question, after 2016, I don't think you will see another stock "carb" engine.

Take a 1985 GM with a 350 small block Carbed engine and put it side by side with a 1997 (same block) with EFI, I bet the 97 will stomp dat ass... Cmon EFI is far superior when properly tuned. Just like a carb if not properly tuned performance is left on the table.

I saw the carbed motor 44 out perform the efi motor 37. Carried a load better an jumped on a step no lag nothing. Maybe I drove a lemon not sure but as of right now I'd get carb over efi. Maybe I'll change my mind once I drive some.more of them but right now nope. We tested them on the same exact boat same day just few min away from each other same load. Carb was better hands dow . It could be the gearing in the 37. Once they change it they gonna let us go run them again an see how we like them. I may change my mind then who knows. It doesn't get cold enough down here for me to need efi

Someone needs to go study up what the difference is between a variable and a constant before saying one is better than the other so they don't look like such a dumbass...

Double Banded you are telling me that a stock 35HP carb will outdo a 37EFI stock for stock? I know in respect to the GTR they have been running the same 38/48 ratio since about 2010.
Also in regards to boss, you can compare the 44 with a carb to the EFI because the 44 has iron mountain heads, a mikuni, and an exhaust.

I don't remember what Rodney told us about the 44 I thought he said all it is is a carb an exhuast motor could be wrong. But yes I'd rather the 44 over the 37. It may have iron mount heads an maybe that's what made the difference but if I had to pick between the two yes I'd take the 44 over 37 any day. The 37 an 44 have diff gear ratio in the boss motors

If u have a 37 an a stock 35 with a carb yeh i guess the efi will perform better but if u are going boss motor an walked in to buy one today an didn't plan on spending other money on mods I'd get the 44.

Is the 44 equivalent to the new 4400 or the old 45?

I think the 44 is the same as the 4400. BPS heads, Mikuni and Q exhaust.
