Ran the 37EFI for the first time yesterday. Tossed a jumbo bag of magnum weighted decoys in the boat along with a loaded 35 Engel cooler, and moved a full tank of fuel up front to have some weight in it other than myself. I didn't want to whomp on it for too long during break-in, but without screwing around too much with trim or weight distribution I got 31.7mph. Same load plus the wife was 30.7mph. Top speeds were in deep water; anywhere that it's shallow the grass slows the boat down more than the shallow water speeds it up. Both speeds were at 4240rpm and an 11-pitch Gator Tail 3-blade. One big difference from my 2013 25GTR that I don't like at all is that at high speed, and with the trim where I get the most speed, the lower unit wants to come up out of the water and bounce. When running wide open, I can just barely put a little bit of pressure on the tiller and the prop blows out. That wouldn't bother me much except for when I run heavy vegetation, the motor wants to bounce in the thick stuff. I don't know if it's the 3-blade prop or the new style lower unit. Any thoughts? |

Also, my buddy just got a Sea Ark MudRunner 170 with a 37GTR. He could hold 29 and touched 30 for a brief moment; it's a pretty nice-running boat. We have some video of him running. |

Its the boat. That instagator is so fast its actually starting to out run the motor causing the motor rise. |

lol At first I thought maybe the water was hitting the bottom of the belt housing but it only happens at the very top of the trim range, not when I trim down. |

Good speeds TGunn. With the knowledge on here, I'm sure someone will be able to offer some advise on the issue you mentioned. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD |

The 3 blade prop is completely different than the 2 blades and the 37 is much different than my 25 gtr was. That being said what hole was your motor in? On my boat best performance with the 37 and a 3 blade is top hole trimmed to where the spray stays below the muffler, any more than that and I will loose speed and when I turn the prop will blow out, not to mention the tiller torque gets to be unbearable. Sounds like your boat will scoot maybe some small adjustments and you will be there. |

Ran it some more today. I have 5hrs on it now. Had 32.4 today, but it was wind assisted. I don't think it's the prop. I think the heavier Vanguard block just makes the motor more weight neutral over the pivot point. When I'm approaching thick stuff I've just been trimming down a bit. |

Good numbers. You are saying the motor is kicking up more shallow? Not the boat bouncing? |

Yes. I'm saying that the 37 kicks up easier than the 25. I think it's just that the big block's extra weight makes the whole engine more weight-neutral at the pivot point on the bracket. The boat isn't hopping. The motor wants to hop when I hit thick vegetation at high speeds. The boat handles the bigger motor just fine; I can't really tell any difference from the 25GTR. |

Put a worked 2 blade on there and I bet you could hit 34 shallow. |

You mean LuceR's? Mine has a hunt deck, short transom, sport crimp, extra longitudinal brace, shorter front deck. . .and a few other minor differences I think, but the running surface is the same. I actually found another GPS photo where I had 33.0mph but it was downcurrent. So if you want to use exaggerated numbers (I'm think most here do), it was 33.0mph. Unassisted was 31.7 and I think it will be even faster once it's broken in and the weather cools off. I want to get a 2-blade prop but I think GT's 2-blade is only a 10-pitch; I may need an 11-pitch. My best numbers are at 4250rpms. Thoughts? |

I hate to be off topic. But what model GPS is that? Looks like a sweet setup. I've been looking for something like it. Thanks! |

I have a Garmin EchoMap 54dv on my duck boat, and an EchoMap 94sv with sidescan on my flats boat. I've been very happy with both. I chose the bigger displays of the EchoMap series over the networking and Sirius/XM capability of the GPSMap Garmin units. As you can see on the display, though, I don't have a transducer hooked up on the 54. |

I've always wanted to see a reaction chine in action. If I remember correctly, lucecr had one of the first ones made. From the looks of the videos that were posted it looked like a resolution to the turning issues the square chine hulls have. Where are you located tgunn? I will be coming down to south La to flyfish for bull reds in the second week of November and would love to take a ride in your boat. I'll provide beer and gas |

Post subject: | Re: 16.5 x 46 Instagator with 37EFI GTR |
LOL...I'm in south FLA, not South LA. Fort Lauderdale, specifically. Jay can explain the chine better than I can; it provides lift and helps with turning. The reaction chine is more pronounced up front at the rake and fades toward the rear of the hull to the point that it's what I think you guys would call a "single taper" (? Jay?) at the stern. I can tell you that when the boat is very light and there's no weight up front, the boat can still slide. But as soon as you put a second person or any kind of load in the boat, it hooks up very well when turning. Tell me what you want video of and I'll try to do it. May be a couple of weeks, though. |

I was looking at the 43dv which I guess is just a dumbed down smaller version. How do you have your transducer where it doesn't get ripped off but still picks up correct thanks again |

TGUNN he's almost done with my boat and it is the first with his new Evolution series hull. It evolved from the reaction chine, but it is a 1 piece hull. I'm pumped to get it he said it won't turn quite as good as reaction but better than a square and it provides more lift. |

Jay was explaining the new Evolution chine to me over the phone. It was a futile endeavor; I don't even completely understand the Reaction chine. But it sounds cool. Post up some build pics when you get them. |

I stopped by a few weeks ago to pick up a rivet gun at Jays house. her was starting your boat then and he showed and described the hull design. He's far ahead of everyone else on hull performance and hes constantly evolving. the concept is awesome and it should help for a lot of hull lift which inturn will produce speed for these motors. excited to she how it performs. |
