Post New Phowler Combo -2066 BigWater Series/Dual Pro-Drive/Blind
Another new Phowler Creation!!! This is our new 2066 Big Water Series with new Dual 37 Pro-Drive EFI motors, console steering (retractable console) and a 5 MAN Custom Total Concealment Blind System 2N'1 Layout Pop-up Combo Blind. This boat can be used as a primary hunting rig and as a tender boat for up to two of our new Phowler Phantom Convertible Layouts boats without removing the blind. The Phantom's can be carried on the boat or towed behind. It has bow storage for long line divers and or puddle duck decoys, plenty of room under the catwalk for up to 3 dozen goose floaters and ample storage for addition decoys and five hunters and dog.

The 2N'1 Blind insert pops off for a wide open boat during the off season so it can be rigged for fishing, pleasure boating, bowfishing or what ever you want to use it for!!! It is big enough inside you set-up camp loungers for Mama and the kids during the summer and will easily pull a tube or water skier! This could be the best of both worlds, one hunting boat to do it all and the party barge during the summer to keep Mama happy!

It will break up to 5" of hard ice and 10" of rotten ice (we did it today!!!). It will motor into less then 6" of water fully loaded and jumps on step in about 10' from dead stop.

The boat show has not had our camo system installed yet, but when ready for hunting it will hide in the wide open if need be.

We water tested it right after our winter show on Monday. Four men she ran average of 29 mph in the channel in the ice!!! Backwaters are all still froze up but we estimate it will run over 32mph out of wind and current and faster in shallow water. Fully loaded with layouts, all gear and five large men and dog it will run 24-25mph.

What a fun rig to drive and it will hunt great when we dress it up for the season!!!

We will have this boat at Phowler Boats at least until after or Spring Demo Events and will for sure have this one or another one like it to use during the next waterfowl season!!!

Yes it is. Two Piece with continuous 3"X1/4" backing plate welded solid outside and stitch welded inside.

I agree, you can drive a 4 wheeler on 5" of ice. Please explain how a flat bottom boat broke it and didn't destroy the sides of the boat.

Why would you make the weakest spot down the center of the boat vs the sides ? Don't matter how thick that backing plate is. Your welds are still your weakest point and not strong as a solid bottom.

There isn't much load on a weld in the middle of the bottom of the boat. The only time it would really be an issue would be like a cyprus knee riding right along the weld with the weight of the boat sitting on it, but the backing plate would make that a non-issue.

Ice...

Take a very close look at this picture, see the chunk of ice stacked up on more ice in front of the boat and the others sticking up behind the boat, these are all of 5" thick. Zoom in and take a closer look.

This is what we were running through upstream in a solid mass before we came back down to the landing to take still pictures. The ice flowing is much of the ice we broke up. We had four men in the boat breaking the ice, granted we did not plane the boat through ice this thick, we walked it up and just kept the boat moving forward to crack it and let the twin motor bust and push through it. Guys down south can't imagine what it sounds like, but we do this all the time up here. We also learned along time ago to run the clean unbroken ice when we can, it is running back through rebreak and refrozen ice that is hard on the sides of a hull, having said that, our hulls can take it.

Ok. Just figured a chine welded at the 90 would be stronger and more rigid then welding down the center where flexing occurs ,

I'll wait for the video. I'd be very hesitant to say I'm selling a product that can reliably bust 5" of ice and the boat will "handle it". The ice you are talking about there is bright white telling me it's not solid ice, and I don't see anything else that looks to be 5" thick, but I wasn't there either. I'm not trying to act like an expert here, but a solid sheet of good ice is hell on a boat, and 5" of ice is enough to hold up a lot of weight.

Post Re: New Phowler Combo -2066 BigWater Series/Dual Pro-Drive/B
I have a similar boat without blind, dual power, or a v-entry. It will break a little over 3" of clean ice if I can get enough weight in it. To succeed it takes three men and two dogs sitting on the foredeck with about 150 decoys in the boat and of course one man on the tiller. It is a slow process, allowing the boat to ride up onto the ice and break through at about half a boat length at a time. Attack it too fast and you end up high and dry on top of the ice!

The combination of much more weight and a v-entry on the hull would certainly allow that hull to break ice thicker than mine would. I don't know that I would advocate doing it with any frequency, given the safety concerns present when messing with that kind of ice, but the hull is up to the task.
