Uncle J 1854 - 2013 Pro Drive
MM Brand: 2013 Gen 3 Pro Drive with heads, mikuni and baffled marshmellow double barrel. 2 blade prop Horsepower: 36 Boat Brand: Uncle J Boat Size: 1854 Boat Layout: Open floor plan, 3/16 bottom, 4in catwalks extended deck, spud pole kit, moveable seat base
Speeds | Shallow Water: n/a Speeds | Deep Water: 27 steady bumping 28
Total Boat Load With Gear Etc: trolling motor n battery, 3 guys, 2 coolers and fishing gear
Conditions Tested In: Deep water with light wind on the river
Comments: After running the motor for 3 years on an 32 year old 1860 riveted mod v jon it was time for a new boat. I had been fishing from a bass boat and hunting out of the old jon so I wanted to get one boat setup to do both. Fishing 3 guys from the bass boat got to be cramped once you got cooler, tackle boxes and a bunch of gear in the boat so the open floor plan was an easy decision. All the storage in the bass rig was nice but seemed to collect more junk than anything else. The speeds listed above didn't change between running empty or with a fishing load. The old jon that I had would drop off in performance pretty quick with any kind of load in the boat. The best speed with it was 27 with a completely empty boat, with the current and stiff wind at my back. With a load it would run about 24 or 25 at best. Going to a true mud hull the improvement in speed and load carrying is definitely nice and it is much, much smoother driving. I'm sure it would be quicker yet if I didnt have the gen 3 lower unit.
Im very happy with how the boat turned out. J was real helpful and super easy to work with through the whole process. It was an 1800 mile round trip to get the boat and I'd make the trip again without thinkin twice about it.
Ill update the review when the river drops and there's some shallow water.

Im in central illinois. Ill put it this way...it was worth making the road trip to Louisiana. There were 2 other builders that would've made for a significantly shorter trip had I went that route.

Re: Uncle J 1854 - 2013 Pro Drive
AAD and phowler? I am driving down Georgia from central IL to pick my prodigy up in another month or so. I have only seen one other prodigy around here, but i am sure there will be a few more around in the next few years. I really considered an uncle J boat but would have been a little longer drive. AAD would have been a cheaper route but would have been a significantly longer wait and they are not known for making mud hulls.

I did contact AAD but that wasnt who I was referring to. The way they build their mud boats didn't really impress me. The plate boats they build are the cats ass though
