Some people were giving shit to a buddy of mine about how excel boats aren't that tough. What I wanna know is if the prodigy that I have is any tougher than his 1651 exel. Mine is a Prodigy 1854 v rake, drop deck, 5086 aluminum. I believe that it is but I want y'all's opinion. The excel has a mb hd 35 and the prodigy has a 4400 bd hdr.

Hands down, prodigy will outlast and out perform excel in most circumstances. Especially durability.

I think it's once again you have to compare apples to apples and not Apple to oranges, with that being said prodigy is a very fine boat and would have been the boat I went with had they been closer to me. The customer service from what I've heard is second to none. Now back to the question- the older excel boats were .100 and 5052 aluminum and did not hold up well. The boat I have is .125 5086 and is the same standard gatortrax gatortail and prodigy uses, only time will tell how long the f86 last but I don't cut it any slack and so far it's holding up good

The answer to your question will depend on how you feel about welds. I would not own either of these but that is just my opinion. Seen some poor welds on one and the other sucks

Prodigy hands down is the better boat. I've rode In both brands and prodigy is top notch. Both are nice boats but the prodigy is one of the best aluminum boats out there.

Prodigy boats are definitly very nice, almost bought one before I bought an excel. The only reason I went with an excel is I got more options, same hull thickness and grade, for a few thousand cheaper. If all I hunted and fished was stump fields then i woulda went with a prodigy and 3/8 bottom, but that's not the case. The excel just fit my budget better. And in my opinion it handles really well. Its heavy, but if you put all the options I have on my boat in any other boat, with the same grade and thickness, it would weigh the same. Both are great boats

Yeeeaa I was gonna say 3/8 was a bit much. I own a 1751 excel f4. Haven't had any complaints other than its heavy and the nose runs lower then most boats...guessing they're made that way so you can maneuver better. I've had it in deep mud and stumps and I'm satisfied. Never ran a prodigy so maybe my opinion is one sided. Both I'm sure are good boats. As far as welds go, that is depending on which welder welds your boat the day it's manufactured.
