Well all the people that say don't put a mudmotor on a jon boat.... 100% correct. Runs like shit.

Now for the review.

1442 alweld jon boat with bare bones in it, 5 gallons of gas (placed at the front for weight distribution), marine battery (back of boat), small yeti full of drinks (front of boat), tolling motor, life jackets, few random tools and a small anchor.
22 mph shallow water 4050rpms
20 mph deep water 3900rpms

Added 1 person to the boat with same load
19 mph shallow 4000 rpms
17-18 mph deep 3850 rpms

The motor has 115 hrs and seems to have no balls on takeoff. About to see about putting a mikuni carb and exhaust on it and hope it runs a little better. How many rpms can you turn a stock 23?

Are you on the original prop?

I think you should have better speeds than that.
Something may be wrong. But THANK YOU for at least putting a little bit of a review in the reviews section. You will get more answers to your questions about the motor in the engines section.

Prop has been reworked, welded up bigger but it doesn't have the cup like my old 35hp mudbuddy prop I use to have. But I was thinking if the prop was wore I would be seeing more than 4050 rpms max.

Maybe to much prop. it has been built up what looks like about 1/2" on each blade, I'll pull a tape on it in a min. What size is factory for a 23 gtr? This is my first gtr. Have had 2 mb's and they seem to have a lot less tiller torque also. Seems I am fighting this gtr the whole time I am driving.

4k rpms is pretty close. Doubt it'll turn much more than that stock. That's a small boat to expect it to be much faster as well as hold speed with any kind of load, and the bare bones in it all have a weight that adds up. You may get another mph or 2 when propped perfectly, but when you added another person, the speed difference seems pretty close to what you should expect with a 1442 and 23hp on the back.

Time to play with some mods.. Will be adding a carb, exhaust, cam, and heads.

I think you are getting poor performance mostly because your boat is small for that heavy of a motor. I bet that that same motor on a 1644 would give you an extra 5mph.

https://www.youtube.com/attribution_lin ... video_user Here is a good example of too short of a boat, and wrong boat all together. Grabs water pretty bad
