Post subject:  20x50 WC Custom // Go Devil 40 FNR Review

Here is the review for my new WC Custom rig. A little lengthy but I think I covered it all.

20x50 WC Custom hull paired with new 40 horse Go Devil FNR motor (bone stock)
Base load (fishing season): 9 gallon fuel tank, Wetsounds Surge 10 sound bar (20 lbs.), Wetsounds AS-10" sub with amplifier (29 lbs), Minn Kota 54" 55 lb trolling motor with deep cycle marine battery all positioned in front of boat. Standard crank battery and Wetsounds Surge 6 soundbar (13 lbs.) in rear. I did my own rigging on fishfinder, light bar and stereo install.

Conditions / Terrain: Marsh; silt bottom cat-tail flats
Average Depth: 6"-4'
Wind gusts: 5-10 mph
Elevation: 4,551'
Performance - Keep in mind I'm losing around 15-20% for altitude, equates to around 3-5 hp (which BLOWS coming from sea level) so this will be a little skewed for most of ya'll.

Base load + myself (220 lbs); Depth: "ideal":
Top end 27 mph @~4300 rpms

Base load + myself (220 lbs) + 1 body (~200 lbs) + fishing gear + RTIC 65 cooler; Depth: "ideal"
Top end 25-26 mph @3950-4150 rpms

Overall this hull is a tank and carries the load well. The goal with the 20' hull was to see speeds and RPM's stay more consistent with the more I load it down. I knew I'd lose a couple mph on the top end with longer hull but load performance is what I wanted to see. Duck season will be the true test for this. Altitude being the other factor, there's a definite 2-4 hp loss at least up here but overall performance so far my expectation's met.

Drafting shallow shallow was a goal achieved. This hull drafts shallower than any other hull I've seen or ran. Combined with the mid range power from the 40 this combo will dig and get up on plane quick from a complete stop in around 6" of water/hard silt bottom, looked up and found myself running border line air boat territory. Really impressed with the hull draft.

Motor Review:
I dig the hell outta the Go Devil FNR frame, I see a lot of haters on the manual trim. The relocation of the drop lever is what made manual trim a definite preference for me. Once trim is set your set and the drop lever is easily accessible to drop the prop for quick bite whether it be for reverse or just getting out of tricky spots in FWD. The configuration with the controls on the new FNR frame is what ultimately had me sold. The UX flow of the motor overall IMO has everything else out there beat rn, feel confident saying I can do things with this motor that I wouldn't be able to do with a Pro Drive, GTR, or Mud Buddy.

Only downside or negative I'm seeing- with trim set just right, in the sweet spot for best speed, motor tends to want to fight the hell outta me, pulling strong to my left side. Getting weight distribution perfect helps but doesn't fix it completely. I'm also gonna take a second look to make sure motor is perfect center on transom, it may not be completely perfect rn but if its off at all its not by much.

Briggs 40 - Mid range power is no joke. This block is a definite 'step up' for Briggs IMO as far as a pure factory built stock block.

Builder review: Not here to give WC a bad rap at all. Overall couldnt be more pleased with this hull, structurally it beats anything else I coulda asked for. Purely constructive feedback- if I were to offer up anything that could be improved upon with builder I'd say better communication. With the final wrap of my build there were a few minor things that I think were either rushed and/or overlooked. I'll spare details but when you're paying this kind of high dollar for a rig its a huge disappoint finally getting your boat to find small things here or there that were overlooked, purely constructive criticism and really only narrows down to 2 or 3 small minor things, overall im pleased with my boat.

Very nice boat and very good review bro. Hope you enjoy it for years to come. I found that the tiller torque with my GTR was horrible at the beginning but I don’t know if I just got used to it or if it eventually worked it’s way out

Taco’s way under powered and doesn’t tow worth a damn. For what it is tho it’s a durable little truck just wouldn’t recommend it for the real serious redneckin’ [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY]

Yeah, my boy has a new tundra with a 6 inch lift that is just straight nasty. Tundras look great jacked up, but he also complains about the gas mileage a lot

It sounds really nice man. I found my tiller torque got better over time once I got used to the rig. I also found that getting my props balanced helped a little too

Good stuff ya’ll thanks I’m digging the boat.. one of these days I’ll be back in Tejas and I’ll def rip this beast out to Caddo or some of the other rides!

Last weekend I re-centered the motor and replaced the plastic throttle control with a lever control throttle. I’m gonna try and refrain from doing much else til warranty expires. It come with GD 11x12 3 blade. You’d think in stock form that’s the best play but Ill look into it when this one wears.

Another plus with new GD FNR is hex shaft so that opens up more prop options than ever before for GD’s

I like that FNR a lot. That’s what I would have purchased if it would have had hydraulic trim

How's the skeg on that GD? Can you bend the torque tab or add one?
