Just doing a review on 2013 1846 tiller 40hp gator tail. My hull is 2013 and has a few blemishes on the bottom. No hooks but a few dings. I have the stock two blade prop. Don’t really care about high speed just decent speed carrying a load. Empty with just 5 gallons of gas (30 pounds), 5 2x2x8 boards (20 pounds), 1 battery, myself (200 pounds) and some miscellaneous tools (10 pounds), I was reaching 31 mph using my phone gps. This is in shallow water less 3 feet. Today I hunted and with a hunt load I was reaching 27mph. My hunt load consisted of 3 people (600 pounds), dog (60 pounds), 5 gallons of gas (30 pounds), miscellaneous decoys and gear (60 pounds). Water was less than 3 feet. I had a 37 Prodrive before on the same boat and it feels like this new motor just has another gear. With my prodrive I was doing 30 empty and 24 loaded. I really liked the tighter turning radius compared to the prodrive. I am disappointed on the amount of tiller torque from the gator tail. It feels I have to constantly apply 20 pounds of pressure to stay straight if the load is not perfectly balanced. The prodrive definitely was nicer to drive. I know it’s not fair comparison but the reverse is obviously not as great compared to the prodrive. I drove into some sawgrass and had to get out of the boat to pull the boat out. The prodrive would of just backed right out without any issues. Overall I am very happy but I hope I can reduce some of this tiller torque issues. Let me know if y’all needed more info. Have you tried moving the weight around? That makes a huge difference with a gtr. If that doesn't work. Bend your skeg a lil bit 18x54 40 GDSD FNR |

Thanks for the input guys. I have played around with moving gear around but it still doesn’t feel quite right. I think I am going to have to adjust the skeg as wauchivn suggested. Probably will bring it to gator tail and have them do it. I’m notorious for turning 10 dollar problems into 1000 dollar problems. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If you are in Houma and do your prop work with baggys, I’ll do your skeg personally for free bro |

If the skeg adjustment doesnt work, you might have to shift the engine over 1-2". I had to move mine 1 3/4" to have the least torque. I always had torque unless I was empty. Which isnt very common 18x54 40 GDSD FNR |

Wchauvin if I ever get some free time I’ll need to make my way down to Houma to have u and baggy look at my prop and skeg. Thank you for offering but it might not be until after the season. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

A couple things: 1. Great review 2. Move your motor over in your transom over 2 inches and it will solve your issues. You can also use a different prop and it will address your issue. Some props pull more than others. You can get that tiller torque 100% eliminated with a little effort. It will drive like an outboard |

Agreed... move the load around and also noticed a lot of diff with trim... motor trimmed down to much tends to pull a lot more to me |

Prop makes a huge difference. On my hull, a rapid or a fat blade have no filler torque at all. A merc 3 or a merc 2 make me have to drive with 2 hands on the tiller. On my buddy’s boat, the same merc 3 (my prop), he can drive with 2 fingers. Depending on the hull, the prop makes a massive difference |
