Post Go Devil 40 FNR on Go Devil 18x48 Surface Drive boat
2- people, pop up blind, no gear, deep water- 30mph
4- people, dog, blind, decoys and hunting gear, deep water- 26

Steers easy, lots of reverse thrust. Been hunting flooded timber and we run up in brush tops and pop up blind. No problem backing out. Starts very easy, idles great.
Had a little noise coming from the clutch area on the third hunt. Took it to Go-devil shop. Warren Coco (owner) and motor mechanic walk out and immediately start trouble shooting. Couldn't replicate noise ( go figure) so they took it in to the shop and went to work. An hour later it was good to go. These folks shut down in the middle of their projects to help me get going , explained how it all works, and got me back on the road in no time. Not only am I happy with their product, but their customer service is top notch in my book.

Is the engine turning up as supposed?

Those are very slow speeds for a 40HP.

I guess Gatortail market shares are down if the Kool-aid Kid is back online bashing other brands.

Go back to the deep water Craig.

Must be, you’ll know for sure when ole DDM is back on here bashing. Seems for a long time they were infatuated with PD, now GDSD has reverse/neutral and the hate changes

I’m not bashing anyone.

My point is just what I stated...those speeds are really slow for that setup.

That engine and hull should be 34+ mph. Easy.

Those speeds seem about right, depending on prop setup.

The speeds are as advertised on Go-Devil’s website.

Don’t set speed expectations based on what people claim they are getting. You will be extremely disappointed.

I have a good friend with that same setup nd his runs 32-33 with a 3-man load/gear and was reason for my comment. Maybe it’s one of those special ones...idk.

I also have a buddy with an old cdi 35 on an 1750’ish Weldbuilt with the ribs running down the bottom and it runs 28-29 with a lite load.

And now that I think about it, my old 1848 GDSD setup ran 29-31 with an old style 35.

With that said, I still think the OP is capable of doing better. The 40 hp vanguards are really strong engines.

Really Craig....

The OP just came on to talk about how happy he was with good factory service...

Not everyone gives a shit about 2-3 mph of extra speed - some care more for safety and reliability....

That is why they buy a GD....

Yes, really.

I’m happy that the op is happy. But to think that “not everyone gives a shit about 2-3 mph” is ridiculous. Because the complete opposite is true. Most with these engines spend $3,000.00 for 3 mph.

I just think his rig is capable of more as it sits. But hey, why run 30 when you can just run 25...

And In case you didn’t notice, I was comparing to other GDSD hulls.

Many have spent $3000 to mod a 35 briggs for load carry.... Sounds like his rig carries
quite a good load at decent speeds bone stock....

And again the OP was letting folks know about good Customer Service....

Customer service is good with godevil, but I agree with Craig 100%. People spend money on performance. I was willing to spend money on performance and am still spending doing more and more. I burned a bay boat with a 115 Yamaha the other day after a hunt. Made the money spent worth it. I also like shaving off 10-15 minutes off my boat ride too, so yeah, it’s worth it

That is crazy talk ! ! !

First off - if your morning boat ride was 30 miles one way - or - an hour long.... You only shave 3 minutes
off your morning boat ride at 33 mph... You need to go over 50 mph to shave your 15 minutes off !

Maybe you should mod the 115 Yamaha to get those speeds --- LOL

Or - just shave off those 15 minutes on the way to the ramp with good planning and quicker launching....

Who drives WTFO before dawn up winding bayous and thru narrow cuts between trees and over
all kinds of floating debris in a mad dash to get to the blind ? ? ? Not true sportsmen ! ! !

I don't mind 30mph in ole heavy. Because I know I have everything I need when I get there. A tin can boat is not for me.

So what was wrong with the engine? What caused the strange noise?
