 Go-Devil Problem
My motor just recently started making this sound which sounds like metal to metal contact. I want to say its coming from the shaft but im not sure. The shaft is strait and i grease it every time i go out. Not sure if a seal is going bad or what. Heres a link to it running http://youtu.be/mig_DkqbIqU

 Re: Go-Devil Problem
The newer longtails have seals and bushings on the bottom and bearings at the top. So either a bearing went out up top or the seals are shot on the bottom. If it's taking more and more grease after each use it's the lower seals. Not a real big job and you order the parts directly from GD. I just replaced the seals, bushing, belt and shaft on my SD to the tune of $182 in parts. If your shaft doesn't get used in salt water and it's still in good shape, your probably just talking about a $40 or so repair.
The hard part is pulling out the old bushing. Need to tap/thread the old bushing and pull it out using a threaded bolt.

 Re: Go-Devil Problem
Well i know the top seal is good because grease doesnt come poring out the shaft and the sound sounds like its more toward the bottom. Im taking the shaft and all that good stuff off right now

 Re: Go-Devil Problem
Before you try to pull out the shaft you need to sand the top part first..The part that is showing in the u joint. Get a piece of sand paper wrap it around then crank engine, is the easiest way...it seams like that little amount of rust will not make a big deal, but it will. It will make it hard, almost impossible for the shaft to slide through the top bearing.

 Re: Go-Devil Problem
Also for future references it's not good to put grease everytime, they are designed to work with the grease pressure thing, that you are missing..lol..sorry having a brain fart on correct name
