Too much boat for the 35 swomp
I have been tossing the idea of instead of 1754 grizzly for my swomp 35 I now would much rather have the 1860. I know I can mod the 35 to get more hp but curious if anyone is running this setup. Im not looking for speed but 15-17 mph loaded with a couple guys and gear would be great. Is this even possible?

Re: Too much boat for the 35 swomp
Yes it is possible. Don't think mods will do much for the 35 longtail or any longtail, because you don't have gear reduction. That will be a heck of stable platform but slow. I have thought of an 18' hull but the Tracker Grizzly line for 2015 is much heavier- I have a 1648 2004 grizzly that weighs 395#, the new model is well over 500#. If you are not busting stumps, beaver dams, or abusing it, you'd be better off with a riveted 1860 or an alweld in that configuration. I plan on at most, a .100 hull, ideally 1844/1848, teamed up with the 35 ss Swomp. I know the grizzly is cheaper than most but a poor match for your 35. I'd save and if not alweld, go with a custom fabber and get it done right, and then you'd always be getting the best performance from it. You might find a good deal on a used Gatortrax or some Gulf Coast custom fabber, seen some good ones in the classifieds right here!

Re: Too much boat for the 35 swomp
I just bought today a 1752 alweld 100 gauge boat. and for the price it is unbeatable. I was also gonna go the grizzly route and backed out because of the weight "1754 is 690" pounds and it has ALOT less room it and with 7 degrees of deadrise don't make for a great match with any mud motor. The alweld weights 380 and would be a good match with a 35 swomp Lt.

Re: Too much boat for the 35 swomp
I'm running a 17/52 alweld with 35swomp and alone I'm at 25 and low 20s with a passenger and high teens with 3 guys and hunting gear. It's super stable and handles well . I have a few dents and some great memories and stories! Custom boats are the cats meow, but a bare alweld will outrun a custom.

Re: Too much boat for the 35 swomp
was told specifically by the guys at Backh20 to not run their motors with Grizzly's. Get a bigger flat bottom alwelded boat and you'll be golden. Like a go-devil or alweld. Then build the boat from scratch.

Re: Too much boat for the 35 swomp
There's also weldbilt boats. I have one in a 16/48 that tips the scale at about 350 the way I have it built and it was a steal in my book. 2600 out the door. I'm ordering a swomp 35 for her tomorrow hopefully.

Re: Too much boat for the 35 swomp
Willet built an 1854 all .125 for a guy on here a while back. Screen name is Kentucky Mark. He put a Swomp 35 on it and got good Longtail speeds out of it. Do a search, for the review.

Brian, not 33. Please correct that. Someone might actually read that and believe it.

Re: Too much boat for the 35 swomp
I didn't figure it was intentional, more a typo. Just some newbies would definitely think it was possible, and figured 23 was the intended number.

Drink more coffee! Damn good speed, I'd be happy with that number.

Re: Too much boat for the 35 swomp
If you are going to drop the coin on a new boat, you really should look at a custom mud hull. The reduced drag from the smooth bottom will offset the weight and make good speed. You also get a stronger boat that is EXACTLY how you want it.

Re: Too much boat for the 35 swomp
[WHITE UP POINTING BACKHAND INDEX] what he said. You can have a bit heavier boat and it perform better if it has a smooth bottom.
